Could use some advice on C63 mufflers install....

Finally found a set. Took the wagon to my local shop and as I suspected one hanger on each C63 muffler will have to be cut. However, the E55 pipes size are 2 3/4 inches and shop said they cannot find that size. They can use 2 1/2 or 3 inches piping to the mufflers.

I do not want to go to 3 and wondering if going to 2 1/2 will make any difference?

Thanks for input.

you can buy 2.75" stainless pipe
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-Steel-Round-Tube-2-75-OD-16-Gauge-5-Foot-Pipe-/181084353714?hash=item2a2977f4b2&vxp=mtr
I was able to match up the C63 mufflers to my OEM E55 exhaust.

Did you keep the OEM inlets on the C63 mufflers or were they cut for the 55 pipes.

Thanks...

I bought the C63 mufflers with about 12" of oem piping. I cut it off leaving 3" of pipe attached to the C63 muffler. The C63 pipe is slightly smaller in diameter. I expanded the 3" section to the size of the E55 pipe & then expanded the E55 pipe to fit over th 3" section & tig welded to look OEM.

Thank you...I am leading towards cutting the inlets on

the mufflers and get the E55 pipes connect/weld straight to the end of the muffler. Got the mufflers with the inlets....not a great picture but you can see them on each side of mufflers.

Thanks again for your help.

Most muffler shops only carry 2.5 or 3.0 but the other guy is right you can get 2.75. To answer you question , no going down to 2.5 for that short distance won't hurt you at all . Keep in mind you have one per side so the 2.5 is plenty .You obviously wouldn't want to have 2.5 on a Supra due to only having one pipe but two 2.5's is letting out plenty of exhaust if that's the size you want to go with. I went with the 3.0 from the headers to the mufflers myself but I'm sure it didn't affect anything but maybe the sound a little.

E55 AMG WAGON 2004
When the exhaust shop fitted my c63 mufflers they cut the pipe tight to the actual box and welded a short section of pipe to sleeve over my original pipework and welded it all up. I guess they probably used 3" pipe to sleeve over my original pipework.

BTW - I also have a wagon and the c63 mufflers weren't long enough to be a straight fit leaving the tips way under the car. I think I was the first to fit c63 mufflers on a wagon in the UK, so no one had experienced this issue before. It's due to the rear floor being a different shape where the battery is located. My c63 mufflers came off a c63 saloon, maybe if they came off a wagon they would have been longer You are probably aware of this, but stock e55 wagon mufflers are quite a bit longer than the saloon equivalents. The exhaust shop had to cut the tips off and extend them to suit. See pics.

Thanks Simon....I was wondering about the length as well. Looks like I might have to look into some customization for a good fit. Nothing major though.
