ODBII... Torque app and coolant & intake temp.. can it be trusted?
Hello everyone
I have tried to see if I could find anything in regards to if the Torque app could be trusted with the info it gives me.
I plugged in a ODBII bluetooth unit and hooked it up with the Torque app.
I am now seeing the following:
Air temp outside 68 degrees (according to weather app and the dash)
Intake temp 72 degrees (according to the Torque app)
Coolant temp 185 degrees (according to the Torque app) This is after 15 min. of driving 40-50 mph. and no hard accelerations at all.
At the same time I did two good pulls yesterday and coolant temp shoot up to 212 and after babying her home.... after 10 min. it was only down to 202.
The car has a X pipe with delete resonators and a heat exchanger, that is it. So if these numbers can be trusted.... (and that is the questions) then I must have a broken IC pump from my point of view.
Hope you guys can comment.

Yes the numbers can be trusted as the app polls the parameters through the OBD port. With that said, the more parameters you log the slower the update frequency.
However, it appears you are confusing coolant temperature with IAT or intake air temperatures. The coolant temperatures sound correct, you need to log IAT's however to know if your IC pump is weak or failing.

Yep I think you are right....
When looking in the app.. it specifically saids "Intake air temp" so that's should be the right one.
Is there a general notion on apx. how much higher IAT should be than outside temp? Or am I misunderstanding this???

Yes, Intake Air Temp is what you will monitor to check how well the IC cooing system is performing. I assume your cooling system is stock, iirc from when my system was stock, 20-25 above ambient when cruising around after bringing the car up to operating temperature was normal for my car.
On WOT blasts, in temps around 70F ambient, I recall seeing IAT's jump to between 150-170 on a stock pulley, iirc, it's been a long time since I was stock.

I have a intercooler or I think you guys call it heat exchanger.. that is it...
right now cruising I am only seeing 3-5 degrees above ambient temp.
I will check with WOT and report back tonight

3-5, farenheit? That is amazing, even with a bigger heat exchanger, a 4 gallon trunk tank with in-tank rule pump, and a meziere pump up front the best I see is 8F above ambient once everything is up to standard operating temperature. Do a couple WOT blasts and see where it sits then.

Def. will do.... previous owner put a pretty big HE in there, but I will report back after testing today

I found the air intake temps reported by dash commander and wifi dongle were not correct (the temperature didn't change much, if it all)
After swapping to Torque on Android and a Bluetooth dongle, I found AIT was correct. Not sure what was wrong, but wasn't a big deal since I keep an old junker android phone in my car anyways.

What kind is it? Do you happen to know the measurements? Thanks!
Waiting to hear what your IAT's are after a WOT blast.
