Nanopaint / Melanite Black
Can anyone tell me whether the nanopaint technology means that the car will be easier to keep clean? I want a black E55, but the last time I had a black car I vowed never to have it again.
It would look awsome when just cleaned, but as soon as the first speck of pollen fell on it, the car looked totally filthy.
Anyone here have melanite black? Is it easier to keep clean than obsidian?

The new technology only has to do with the hardness of the paint and its ability to lessen road chips and swirls.
The nano-technology has nothing to do with keeping the paint clean.

My 04 E320 has the nano-paint and it's Tectite Grey. I'll tell ya, I've had 4 black cars before this tectite-grey and I stress-out less and worry about swirl marks less and I attribute most of it to the nano-paint. We run it through carwashes multiple times and it literally still looks like new.....

The guys are right, nano paint won't make the car less dirty... but when it's clean...man... it'll look much sharper with 40% fewer swirlmarks.
Plus a 40% harder finish will also be more chip resistant.
Come "Back to Black"

How can I tell if my '04 W211 has the nano-clearcoat paint? Is there some special VIN marking or after a certain build date?
Also, should the car ever need body work, are they still able to source this paint?
Thanks,
Chris

Look at the paint code on the B-pillar, it should be preceded with a "C". Mine says "C753" (Tectite Grey)
I've been thinking about the bodywork issue also. Should the car need bodywork, it can only mean two things, either the body shop cannot source the nano-paint or it would cost more than the normal paint-job if they could source it.

Arnee, my 2003 CL was built in November 2002 as per the 11/02 on the B Pillar sticker. My B pillar sticker also says C744 . That would imply that I have the new nano paint, however, it is my understanding the new nano paint started in the summer of 2003....

LOL I noticed...really, the song's lyrics make sense.
Awiner, I am trying to remember where I read somewhere either on a forum or a website that if it starts with a C, it does have it.
I guess if your car has a C, then that's the incorrect info? I took it to heart, since my past cars didn't have the "C" in front of the paint code and my car has *no* paint swirls, it's so cool.

Arnee, I am hoping that I do have the nano tech paint. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Maybe they started early and didn't tell us...
Wish we could find out for sure how to tell.
The funny thing is that I have noticed my paint on the 2003 is in much better condition than the paint was on my 2001 after a year.
I notice much less rock chips which makes me wonder if I do indeed have the nano paint.

Duh, it was from this forum where I read it...

I'm not sure about DiWi's credibility but I would like to find out for sure that the "C" code is "it." I don't think salespersons would know off the bat, however.

Accroding to his post in 12/03, some models produced in the Sindelfingen production plant used the nano coat early on. I wonder if mine could have been one of those models as it was produced in the Sindelfingen production plant and does have the "Cxxx" paint code.
Would be pretty weird however since my car was a 11/02 production.
I will see what I can dig up.

Not sure if you remember me...I used to have the '01 CL 500...the bumper plugs time![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My '03 SL 500 paint code also has C723 (Pewter). Not sure if it has nano-clearcoat...
No swirls in my paint...I'm very careful when washing![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I've also read the posts regarding the "C" prefix on the paint code. Honestly I'm taking less stock in that rumor. Several days ago I emailed MBUSA to ask them what denotes a car with the new paint, I have yet to get a reply. If and when I get a reply, I'll post it here.
My car will arrive to my dealer next week. He has assured me it has the new process, but then again he also assured me my car would have the "curve sensing headlights" which I know it does not.
I'll trust my dealer but I'll also confirm these things for myself.
