Talking AZN Optics 38mm festoon review (license plate LEDs)

Ordered these 5000K 38mm festoon LEDs from the onsite vendor AZN Optics

http://www.aznoptics.com/index.php?m...jbs0qldj6v9lq6

they're $20 ($10/ea) and install was SUPER EASY!

Tools needed:
#2 phillips screwdriver (short length)
flat screwdriver (as a prying device)

1. pop your trunk
2. remove the 4 phillips head screws from the license plate bulb covers
3. with the flat screwdriver, pry the lenses off (the bulbs will come out with the covers)
4. remove the old bulbs, and replace with the LED festoons - remember to face the LEDs DOWN toward the license plate
5. pop the lenses back in and redo the screws - voila! you're done!

I've been running those for over a year with no problems and they look much better than the old dingy yellow bulbs.

I bought these recently as well but haven't gone around to installing them yet. No polarity issues I guess?

Another option are the sealed version:

Little harder to install, but works better.

Meh, there are bulbs with more SMD's that are even brighter and still just as easy to install as the AZN's if you don't want to tear your trunk apart.

Glad you enjoy. We used to have brighter 8 diode units, but general feedback from our customers were they were too bright so we cut down to 6 diodes.

This place is a joke.
I had these on my car, loved the look, but found them to be too bright. It made my license plate visible for what seemed like 1/8th of a mile and made my car stand out a bit too much at night...not what I want on a ~600hp car that is occasionally driven in Mexico. I put the OEM bulbs back in.

Did you have the older V3 unit (with the heatsink) or the newer V4 units with the IC constant current drives?

Great angle....I'm going to do the same and go back to stock.

Really tired of having to replace the AZN in both the city lights and the license plate, as they just don't last for me.

Sorry to hear about the issue. The older V3 had a higher rate of failure than what we'd like, but all the damage from our exchange looked to be due to external current surging. That's why we pushed for our new V5 unit wedge and V4 unit festoon that have the constant current drive to bigger the components from electrical spikes. So far since we've released that new technology, they've been very successful.

Keep in mind that older designs had issues with external factors causing damage. They work fine in clean room regulated power environment, but live vehicular situation introduced issues with power fluctuation, condensation, etc. As LED technology evolves, we're constantly looking for ways to incorporate and improve our offerings. These latest units are the most advanced on the market.
