Jay Leno called them "pretty much a work of art."

Aside from the lettering on these callipers saying Mercedes Benz instead of AMG, they look exactly the same as those from a W211 E55 AMG although these actually belong to the legendary SLR.
TRANSCRIPT:
"This right here is the front brake calliper from my SLR.
I got a call from the factory saying
"Oh there's an update, we want to change out your callipers."
I said what's a calliper like this cost?
"I'd say about 15 grand."
YELP!!! It's pretty much a work of art."

Also interesting to note is Jays W210 E55 pictured in the background here:

Yes they are the exact same brake - except for the lettering and the price.

Doesn't the E55 have the same brakes but the SLR has carbon ceramic rotors hence the price?

On a side note, what a sick beautiful car the SLR was. Then the SLS replaced it and seeing it for the first time was like watching Anchorman 2 after nearly dying laughing during the original.

Gotta agree, the SLR holds a special place and will probably become a classic. When Top Gear tested it around the their track it blew away every car previously tested with the fastest time ever and went straight to the top of their chart. One thing that surprised me though was final production numbers at just over 1400 units although Mercedes intended halting production at 3500 cars they never got the chance as sales proved slower than expected.

That's actually really cool, knowing that we have the same brakes. I know the rotors on the SLR are over $10k but still, we have the same calipers, we have supercar calipers YAY!!

We can claim we have the same engine, supercharger and gearbox too haha excluding some "minor" variations

Coincidentally just came across these USED SLR Callipers for sale on eBay - a steal at $10,000 for the FRONTS ONLY - and I don't mean a steal for the buyer...

My first thought was of course to buy a $10 decal sticker set from eBay then re-badge my front callipers from AMG to Mercedes-Benz and offer them as SLR brakes for $8000 then pick myself up a replacement pair of E55 Callipers for $800 - a tidy 1000% profit - and I'm still cheaper than the competition by 2 grand! But bugger me if it turns out they are ever so slightly different - the E55 calliper has a bar that extends across at the rear - still for $7200 profit I can have the bar removed... Doh!! Too late, I revealed my cunning plan...
