SC pulley noisy, prefer aftermarket upgrade, and tune (in SoCal?)

So from the sounds of it, my 2004 E55 SC pulley is dying. Rather than replace it with stock, it seems like a good opportunity for some moderate tuning.

Clutched Pulley + Tune + Belt kit

Is there a one stop shop in SoCal where I can go for that?

The 77mm pulley seems more aggressive than I'm really interested in (or maybe I'm wrong there?), so is there a larger than 77 but smaller than stock good option? I'd otherwise be stock. Or is 77mm clutched + tune ok on a stock setup. Tough to tell from the threads if applying it to a stock ride is ok as so many of the members are QUITE MODDED UP

The 77mm S/C pulley is all that I've installed unless you count the AFe dry filters a performance enhancement, I don't. It runs fine without a tune but for that slight hesitation in first about 2500-3000 RPMs.

I do plan on getting a tune as soon as I can figure out who best to do it. As always: YMMV

The 84mm pulley is the most popular because it's been out for years. It's the smallest pulley on the market. It will give you a nice boost with a tune. 50+ rwhp and will not heat soak the inter cooler

I would buy the stock s/c pulley if its daily driven.

There have been some topics about the failures of small s/c pulleys and damaging some parts in their way.

I would look for headers, throttle body or PLM H/E.

Hi all. Thank you. The pulley will be replaced either with a stock or aftermarket, but not really looking for other mods. More of an opportunistic mod on an otherwise stock vehicle, if it works out.

The 84MM + Tune sounds as if it's the leading candidate. I'm aiming for "still drivable by the wife" when it comes to drivability/reliability. I mean, I could handle some quirks (naturally would prefer few if any), but quirks wouldn't be good for her on the rare case that she gets behind the wheel.

Also, won't be doing any of the install myself. So looking for a shop that could do the install (and tune) with some experience in one shot if there's one of those in SoCal. Know of a place like that?

I wouldn't run that pulley without a tune. First your spinning the supercharger faster and your car is dumping all the extra boost on a stock tune. 2nd it's possible you are going to run too lean when your into it and you will lose a cylinder wall. I wouldn't advise anyone to run the 84mm without a tune either.

After you get a tune if you don't improve your cooling for the intercooler you will heatsoak and the car will pull timing and you lose the power you were gaining

Do some research on how much heat a 77 sc pulley/ 180 crank pulley generate. It's not a stand alone bolt on by any means

Thanks for the advice. As I mentioned, it doesn't have tune yet. I'm looking for a tuner now. In the meantime I'm just *****footing around with it. Going with a HE, 030 pump, possible split tank, headers, LSD and a few other things.

I've done a lot of high HP vehicles and you are correct, the most difficult aspect of making power is keeping your kool. It's pretty easy to make a lot of power and it's pretty hard to keep it cool enough to be drivable. Gotta watch both the IAT's and EGT's. Well, you better be watching a lot of other things too if you're making big power.

I have the 84mm from eurocharged. They will send you a cable to install the tune from your laptop- super easy. The pulley itself was installed by Renner motorsport by LAX.

Good gains, stock like drivability.
