Anyone trading in a 55 for the E63 biturbo?

I know there are some with older wore out cars that polish their rocket dreaming about getting into a Biturbo. So, just asking to see who is selling, adding or keeping what they have?

The new W212`s are many years ahead of my Cl55/E55 (55s are great cars and lot of sentimental value for many) and it is worth skipping over the 6.2L 63 model if you are looking. Stick with the boosted engines. It is fun test driving one if you are thinking of adding , trading or just want to feel the differences.

The 7 speed trans shifts really fast, adds quickness to the ride and a lot of race feature - options. Plus race start is fun to use on a daily basis form every light.. Coil spring front end set up with rear air bags really adds to both handling firmness and still maintains ride comfort. Others may be able to chime in on all the new features they like.

AMG Biturbo in the 8s could be just around the corner with so many working on the format.

one with 23k sold for 38gs white. I would keep my car and get one of these but that quality is not the same as the 55

In that boat of what to buy now...

Toss up between E63TT, CTS-V, 911 Turbo, GT-R, or a really modded E55 lol

W211 has a much better build quality and fit and finish than the W212 interior wise...so for me it would be a no.

W213...no comment as I've not been inside one.

So these cars have been in the 9's? Was never a big fan of the NA 6.3 platform but the bi-turbos seem nice and fast.

How are these cars holding up as far as random breakdowns like the E55 (airmatic, SBC, fuel pump, etc.)?

I have not noticed any interior fit and finish issues at all with the 2012 and up w212. I also had a 2014 for a couple of weeks and it was a tight car too. They fit me better than the older models, as I am 6ft -6" , a sevelt 250 lbs and w211 had less room it seemed. The front grill does seem a little flimsy.

The biturbo engine is rock solid and 7 speed wet clutch trans is solid as well. I called MB and spoke to a few master techs about quality and they confirmed drivetrain quality is great. Low end torque is huge and they pull like a train with the 7 speed gearing.

Rear air bags are still prone to failure, just like older cars and I assume the air pump too. Good news is, only have air bags on the rear now. Fuel system is different. MPG is a lot better and even at high speeds. I averaged on a 118 mile trip, at a trip speed avg. of 82mph and still got 22.3 mpg for the trip.

They now have rebuilt ABC struts, which reduces the pain of ABC by a lot.

I wouldn't mind moving up to a V12 W221, but the car is just massive and would be no fun driving in a dense city.

If money weren't an object... Torn between the new E63 and the S65's... Something about a bi turbo V12 sounds pretty cool to me...

S65, heck yeah. Even the 2006 only W220 S65 is stupid fast. It's lighter than the W221 S65, but it's interior is dated compared to W211.

It's that immediate rubber band effect with the 55 that the 63 doesn't have ...for now

Have you tried the race start mode? I often alternate driving between the Cl55 and the E63 Biturbo and there is no turbo lag and stock they will glue you to the seat through all 7 gears. Yes, the older V12 turbos with 5 speeds are fast but also have that smooth quiet power Vs the new 5.5 biturbo has a much more radical feel all the way around.

55`s made 420 to 430 RWHP stock and with a stock biturbo you get 480 to 490 rwhp (new S model near 540 rwhp) and the 7 gears really adds a huge amount of quickness. Per the dyno, they are way underrated from the factory but in realitity , the biturbos have a lot less drive train loss with the new wet clutch trans VS the 722.6. With the electric steering you can just lay this car into the corners with vengeance! I dig the 55`s and keeping mine but just pointing out the biturbos have a lot of power and great new features worth trying out for any AMG enthusiast.

my girlfirend even said the E63 makes my E55 and C63 look cheap in comparison

I'd love to upgrade to a bi-turbo, but it doesn't make financial sense considering how infrequently I drive. So for now I'll keep slumming it out in my 12 year old E55. Hahaha
