Upgraded HE on my 03 e55...no lower cooler???

I've removed my stock he and noticed that I don't have a lower/smaller heat exchanger. Instructions shows my PLM secures the lower he in place. Was it certain years that have them? Here's what I'm missing.

How sure are you? I'm not questioning your knowledge but I have a Canadian spec car which may be different. For example I have this cooler (tranny) attached to my rad. Would this have lived on the bottom of the he???

This.. Possible I guess if yours was a late build date it could have the 04 set up. Have not heard of that but it's possible

Yes 03 Had one think it's the oil cooler then it moved to passenger side front vent

Correct you are....this is what my version looks like. I also have the square rad with a fan on the passenger side. This looks a lot more efficient than the lower thin version relying the air to cool it.

It did not move to the passenger side. That is a separate oil cooler that all E55s have.

As to the vertical cooler in front of the radiator, that is also not a replacement for the lower cooler. My '06 has two verticals in front of the radiator.

'04-'06 had the lower cooler underneath the heat exchanger.

My 04 has 2 vertical coolers also. Non below heat exchanger.
So maybe commonly the 03 had one vertical and one under HE for trans cooler. 04-06 2 vertical. Non below.
OP seems to have less cooling for tranny??

Are you saying all the 04-06 does not have one below? If so, you're wrong. Otherwise, I did not understand what you wrote.

They added the additional oil cooler halfway into 2004 model year. Mystery solved.

Thanks for that guys. Awesome forum!
In light of this, should the 03's upgrade their oil coolers?

No I don't think so. You could also fit in a larger heat exchanger because the oil cooler is missing.

True. If I knew it was missing I would have opted for a larger one. I went with the PLM and 010 pump.

my car is 3/03 build. No lower additional cooler. 1 vertical in fron of radiator, this is the powersteering cooler. If there is 2 vertical, arent these both for powersteering?

Also as said all the e55's have the additional engine oil cooler by the passenger side.

What is this lower cooler for? I know it came sometime in 04 as said but newer caught my eye whats it for?!

I looked at all the online parts diagrams I could find, but none show the lower cooler or the extra driver's side cooler in front of the radiator.

MY04 and up had the lower engine oil cooler in additional to the square one located in right hand side wheel well.

03s have one behind the bumper on the passenger side with a fan attached to it and did not have a cooler under heat exchanger. 04-06 had the one behind the bumper with the fan in conjunction with a slim one under the heat exchanger.

What is the driver's side vertical one in front of the radiator for?

Are none of the extra coolers for transmission fluid?
