Does anyone know how to check oil level using the computer? Does it have the dipstick? I thought I found one but Tire Kingdom technician told me that was transmission dipstick.

I don't believe the digital readout will give you 'Oil Level.' Anyone, feel free to correct that statement. That being said, that is absolutely your oil dipstick that's in the picture. A simple sniff of the fluid would verify that. The transmission in our cars are a sealed unit.

Yep I'm dealing with the same thing too...car keeps telling me to check oil level...but my dipstick says it's full...I have a sneaking suspicion that my dipstick is not an OEM part...the cap is not red and it doesn't have that twist! I think I'll stop by a dealership to buy a new one! But to answer your question no you can't check it via your instrument cluster it will give you oil temp and battery voltage, I confirmed it yesterday from the owners manual

dustinN....can you do me a solid and measure that dipstick from cap to the bottom red piece? LOL sorry for the weird request I purchased my car used so again I have a weird feeling my dipstick isn't an OEM part...thank you Sir!

I replied to your thread with those measurements.

tire kingdom "tech" giving knowledge about anything other than the tires is bad news. good thing you came and asked here. yes its your oil dipstick. no you cant get the readout in the cluster. the engine only uses an oil level switch not a level sensor so the cluster will only tell you its low on oil after driving a while but wont show you the amount.

Its definitely not an OEM. I'm going to have the oil & filter changed again at MB dealer. My worst nightmare is they drained the transmission fluid and top of the engine oil. I am saying this because I saw they had hard time finding the drain underneath the car. 3 of them got together... removed stuffs and then put them back.. it took awhile to drain the oil.... I saw that the window. The dipstick show the oil level is about 5'' above the high mark.

The length of my dipstick from the base of the handle to the full mark is 20 7/8ths. Total length from the base of the handle to the end of the dipstick is 23 1/8th. Both of these measurements do not include the red handle. Just the portion of the dipstick that is essentially inside the tube and into the oil pan.

This procedure will give you a read out of the oil level with the computer, works on my 2006 E55, might be worth a shot.
That's why I do my own oil changes, I would be scared to be running the engine with low oil and most of the techs in those tire shops have no idea how to work on these cars. Hope that link helps.

I dont feel anything different when driving so maybe they didnt drain the trans fluid. I just dont undestand why the dipstick shows very high mark oil level. Before the oil change, the mark is between min and max. Maybe they didnt drain at all???

Yes, i am still driving driving, I have appointment this Sat. Here is how I measure the oil level. After 15' drving, shut off the engine, wait for 5' and measure it. It shows about 5'' above the max. If I measure it the first thing in the morning, it shows just a little above the max line.

I am looking at the VMI, I dont see any trans service, the car is now at 60k miles. Maybe its time for one. Trans oil should be changed every 40K, is this corect?

Yes, I wiped it off before measuring. Pull out, wipe off, reinsert, pull out, then check the level. Thanks.
