Rear Flex Disc brand
Hi,
I need to replace my rear flex disc due to cracking. It's my 2005 E55. Who is the OE manufacturer of the original disc. If not, which OEM brand can I use. I looked at Pelican and saw that O.E.M might be suitable enough. Another option is Febi.
Thanks

Original Brand is SGF - Süddeutsche Gelenkscheiben Fabrik, which also is the inventor of these flexdiscs.
If you buy from the repacker FEBI you might have luck and find a SGF disc in there with just minor imperfections. I would only buy SGF or Mercedes, however i had luck in the past and bought one FEBI and it was indeed a SGF in there that looked very good.

Quick question. I have an idea of how to replace the flex disc, but couldn't find a write up for DIY here. Anyone know where to find one?

When you see it you know how. Important is to note in which direction bolts and nuts pointing. Also sometimes the discs have a marking facing in the direction away from the gearbox or the diff. Depends on car, Flexdisc, etc.
You'll need a pry bar or something like that. Ohh and be careful with the center bushing thats inside the main shaft ends, dont damage it or it will drone....

Just did this on mine used the pelican parts how to.
Main things are ensure to note or remark the alignment marks from the output shaft on the gearbox right through to the diff input shaft. The factory marks were pretty obvious on mine but I remarked where I split the drive shaft in two as I didnt think it was accurate enough.
Grease the brass center bushes if your reusing them. Grease the spline where the drive shaft splits in two. Torque the new bolts to spec which is 60 something... not sure if lbft or nm..... **** I think I did mine to lbft... Doh, I might have to recheck that.
So I probably did mine to 80nm instead of 60nm.... What you guys think? I see m12's are sometimes torqued to 80nm.... hope its alright... that could end in a bit of a mess if it fails on me huh....
Hmm the internets tells me that m12 8.8 is good at 80nm. I think I can live with it.

Ok, just realized that I didn't have a Torx big enough, so picked up a T60 today. Now, there is not nearly as much room to split the shaft as I was expecting. Is it still possible, or do I need to look into lowering my exhaust system too??? I would hate to have to do this. Let me know.

Yep exhaust heatshield etc etc has to come off. Exhaust is not difficult just time consuming.
