Do a search for the headbolts. A very expensive fix if they go. Ask if they were replaced.

Chances are the head bolts have not been done. Suspension is subject to expensive repairs, search airmatic. Check codes, everything is expensive to fix. Front brakes and pads $2700 at dealership, but can cut costs if you use one piece rotors and an Indy mechanic or DIY. You should know the signs that head bolts are failing (a fairly rare occurrence): loss of coolant, white exhaust, etc. DON'T ignore these signs, immediate action necessary...like don't drive it. Excess valve train noise is a bad sign also...some engines prematurely wear cams, also expensive. Common to leak oil at the valve covers, pretty easy fix. Depending on mileage you could need ball joints and other suspension bushings. A good relationship with a good independent mechanic is very helpful. If you have a gas smell inside the car Mercedes extended the warranty and you can have the gas tank and pumps replaced at no charge. Non Mercedes extended warranties are not cheap and must be shopped carefully or many problems will not be covered. I love my 07 E63, I have only owned it 6 months.

I would search for an 05-06 e55 instead. Same car minus exterior bumpers and skirts with a superior motor.

Head bolts, lifters and camshafts are all very expensive to replace. If you notice loss of coolant and white exhaust smoke the head bolts are already done for and should not be driven. The intake manifold for the m156 are known to warp over time due to heat as well and are not cheap to replace. Front rotors are pretty expensive to replace as well but can be done for about $1k if you go the c63 one piece rotor route.

I bought an extended warranty through USAA and it paid for everything until i reached its pay out limit. In the two years i've owned my e63 my warranty paid out over $18k for repairs for 4 airmatic shocks, electronic trunk closing mechanism, headbolts, camshafts, lifters, intake manifold, various pullies, all worn suspension components and some other things I've forgotten about. I bought my 07 with 58k miles with all records from mercedes of laguna niguel. What I'm saying is that I did my due diligence before purchasing my e63 and it still ended up having all these problems.

Look for an e63 .. or any amg with the m156 for that matter that has had the lifters, camshafts and head bolts issues addressed already. It'll save you a LOT of money and headaches down the road.
