The quickest production car currently available
My apologies in advance for the but occasionally I do post articles or info which I think will be of interest to E55 owners. This time it's the recently announced Tesla Model S P100D and its claim to be the quickest production car currently available.
This from the Tesla Blog:
"The Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode is the third fastest accelerating production car ever produced, with a 0-60 mph time of 2.5* seconds. However, both the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were limited run, million dollar vehicles and cannot be bought new. While those cars are small two seaters with very little luggage space, the pure electric, all-wheel drive Model S P100D has four doors, seats up to 5 adults plus 2 children and has exceptional cargo capacity."
Also a widebody kit has become available for the Model S which works wonders for the electric rocket's street cred, although I imagine there's gonna be some differing of opinions.
At any rate the instant torque propelling you in silence to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds has gotta be fun, even if it's not what you might call "muscle car fun"...

Heck yes I would consider it as you would take down everything on the street anytime anywhere from a dig.
However, if your game is 60-130 it will get SMOKED by a lot of other production cars that don't cost $1M. Z06, modded E63 biturbo, etc.
Plenty of video's on youtube with drag racing and roll races. For what the car is and the price it is extremely impressive but other than blowing people away from a dead stop but IMHO not very rewarding.

Teslas are as common as Civics around here. There's just no emotional attachment for me. It's more of a neat toy to me than anything else.
My neighbor has an all electric vehicle and he always has to rent a car when going on a road trip with his family. For that reason alone I would never buy an all-electric vehicle.
My bike is more efficient and I use that every work day (if I don't just work from home). If my commute ever changes, I'd probably get a hybrid. More likely I would just work from home more often.

Looks great, I would like to have one. But the whole silent but deadly thing? Fast but not even a sound? Not even fake bmw engine noises? It fast off the line but will still get destroyed in a roll race or any real highway situation by a comparable petrol car. Then, GTFO

Kinda like the Panamera when it came out.

Great looking car but does not have the range I need or enough charging stations to make it feasable. Plus, like the others said, it's not the strongest after 60 mph. If it were a hybrid, yeah, it would work. As is, not yet for me.

I've found a battery trailer that could extend my miles for long trips with e-mode only - but not likely to purchace and haul that thing around.
I also have a electric bike (27 plus tire size, front suspension hardtail with an e-rad motor) that will go 100 miles on a charge and hit speeds of +37 mph.
Electric vehicles are here to stay and are improving everyday.

Until electric vehicles or hybrids have some emotional attachment (aka Porsche 918 Spyder), I'm going to keep waiting. I'm personally more in the market for something like the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo when it finally comes out.
Hopefully as a hybrid as the concept was shown. Even then, I'm not letting go of the AMG if I can help it. The era of monster NA V8s are over - which makes me enjoy it all the more. Yeah it 'only' does 0-60 in 4 seconds, but that sound...

We finally got a model X for my wife 3 moths ago. After we test drove one, we both fell in love with it. We were worrying about charging/range so we never looked at it before and were considering X6M at the time, but completely changed our mind after test driving one. We have charging station at home, so no issue at all. You would be surprised how easy you can install one. We have traveled from Bay Area to LA without issue with charging the car. And if you travel somewhere, as long as they have an electric dryer/range, you are safe. You can charge 160+ miles overnight with dryer or electric range plug. Till today, we love it every minute. Smile everytime with it on the road
We moved from MB to Tesla, we hardly see ourselves moving back in the future at least in a short time
Please do not follow us. We do not want to see too many Tesla, especially X on the road

I've seen plenty already. Heck, there's five of them in one floor alone at my workplace.
AMGs are definitely uncommon - I'm actually quite surprised. Plenty of MBs though. That will change momentarily at Laguna Seca this Sunday though.

Anybody read Car and Driver article Lightening Lap #10 in current issue? They drive a couple dozen cars at Virginia International Raceway over three days for best lap time. Not included in these cars but present (because an editor had driven it to the lapping secession) was a Tesla S P85D. It may be fast to 60, but couldn't complete one lap without reducing power due to heat build up and protective circuitry (think limp mode but not as limiting). The brakes went to the floor at the end of the first straight (after speed reaching 137 mph). With these problems it ended up with a time of 3:17 equaling the 5317 pound 2012 Jeep Gran Cherokee SRT8. This is not my idea of the fastest car in the world, and makes me appreciate my AMG that much more.
Granted the car at the top of the post is a different model, but the promo touts 0 to 60 and there is so much more to know, like can it be fast for more than a couple minutes?

Watch this classic commercial with the speakers cranked up:
Then watch it again on mute. The one on mute is how it would sound if they were all electric.

If I had my pick it would be a new ctsv. American muscle and 9's are not far away. I raced a 16 model with the sticker on the window last week . My first lost. It was close but 625 hp goes along way and so do the bolt ons. They are cheap and you don't have to do near the work.

Matt Farah drove a P90D for a "One Take" and one of the first things he noticed was that the brakes were insufficient for a car weighing in at over 5000lb that goes that quick. He did have fun driving it though.

They've tested the p100d today. 2.54 0-60 10.7s 1/4mile expecting quicker on the track.
Tesla is getting more common in the Bay, but P90D, P100D is not a common car. They do look the same from outside except the badge though
