E55 AMG IS Faster Then V10 M5
2,650 - 4,500 rpm. The car weighing at 3,824 lb, going to 0-60 in just 4.3 and reaching the 1/4 in just 12.4 121mph. Im guessing the M5 will weigh about a 100 pounds less with it being a 4-door with a v10 engine oly producing 500hp and 368 lb of torque, please that is no match for it against the e55 in a striahgt line. I was told in Decembers 03 Automoblie mag that E55 was capble 0-60 in 4.1 and the 1/4 12.015. Plus 0-120 in just 12.259 and 0-150 in 20.910. It was said that the new M5 will be going 0-60 under 5 secounds, and 0-120 in just about 13 flat. So I belive the M5 will not beat a E55 in a Striaght but it will out Handle, the E55. So if i were to choose between these cars my choice would be the

there is no use judging a car by numbers posted from a magazine on a car that isn't even in production yet
instead of every other thread being a m5 vs e55 thread, why don't you just wait till the new m5's that are in production are tested and then make your judgement then???

m5= the suck
Anyway, here is my real question. Currenly have a CLK430, time to switch to a 4 door, so naturally the E55, Current M5, not the new body style, and the RS6 are my choices. See the wife says we need to start planning for a Fam, so I get to choose between those three, otherwise it would be a CL55. Anyway, anyway, can the memebers here give me their fact based opinions, on which is the better over all.
I mean, MB to stop including scheduled maintenance, and I know the current issues I have, so really why go back to MB? And don't say 493 ponies either. The porsche is quicker.
Seriously, sway me back to mb guys...

if you live on the east coast and experience a winter then get either the cayenne or the rs6. but if you live in like southern cali for example then id chose between the E55 and current m5.

Where did you get this info that the E55 only weighs 3,824lb? According to mbusa website the car weighs 4,087lb.
I Belive the V8 Kompresser E55, Is faster then Bmw's v10 M5. Now why so? Will 469 hp at 6,100 rpm, and 516 lb-ft. At

Secondly, I will asure you the E60 M5 will be faster in a straight line.

I think it's very foolish to predict M5 numbers below 4.1 sec with certainty before it's even released.
Will there be reports <somewhere> of M5's running around 4.3 (whether or not the average is faster or slower)?
I'd bet on it.
And that time is slower than the best reported E55 times.
There <will> be overlap of the two ranges unless the M5 runs 3.7-4.0 (and that's so unlikely that it's not even worth discussing).
The M5 is one ugly *** car, who cares if it corners .02g's better than the E55, or is 1-4 mpg faster in a slalom. In the rarified strata that the two compete in, style, quality, image and beauty plays an important role, and the E55 has them in spades, while the M5 lacks.
E55, M5 and RS6 all have different qualities that afford each car its own strengths.
E55 is a monster on power...some of the 1/4 miles I have seen, stock is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Also E55 is more comfortable and has a bit more bells and whistles. Very classy looks as well. Handling not as crisp as an M5 and can be a bit nervous at the limits.
M5 tends so sacrafice a little comfort in the name of handling and performance. Plus, BMW makes some of most well balanced cars that typically require a bit more driver involvement. Current M5 is a classic desgin that will always look good. E60....I am trying not to pass judgment until I see it in person......but man is it difficult not to...especially when I see a 530.
RS6 An all weather super sedan that has very little trouble getting the power down in almost any situation. Nose heavy which can lead to some understeer (better with DRC)....not ideal on a two ton car. Interior is becoming a little dated but built very well. RS6 looks far better then any 4.2 or base A6 but not very flashy. Very tunable $2500 can get you 520hp and 520 tq.
It all depends on what you are looking for...to each his own...and good luck
by then wont the E55 have been out for 3 yrs?
u no wut AMG does every 3 yrs?
i think they give their cars facelifts and new engines?
W202 C36->C43->C55
W208 CLK55->W209 CLK55
W203 C32->C55
W210 E55->W211 E55
CL55->CL65
SL55->SL65(maybe?)
each of those were either 3 or less yrs apart
by the time the E60 M5 comes out, which im very certain will NOT be too much faster than the W211 E55, MB will already have a new E55 out or on the way

Supercharging that will provide another step up in power.
Supposedly MB has also already registered the name for a 6.9 liter engine.
And BMW will do the same thing.
There's no reason to believe one side will simply quit competing.
whichever is faster if you own the slower of the two, it does not make you lesser of a man or make your decision on buying that car any worse.
