Knocking Sound from the Engine: E55 2003
Hi Guys,
I recently had my CAR Sitting for like 3 months, the battery went bad, then i changed the battery. I took it for a short drive. ,
I didn't changed the Engine oil for about 1800 miles pass the due date, However i don't drive the car as much. maybe once every two weeks.
Problems:
1) The key doesn't work, it doesn't open or close the car
2) when the car is on idle there is no sound, as soon as you press the gas this knocking sounds appears. it is kind of loud, i think it is from top of the engine.
then when you let the gas go, the knocking sound comes and goes every like 40 or50 secs.
Can you guys help me on that, is it wise to drive the car to a shop or i should just tow it . i hope there is not anything major, i look forward to see some comments.
Thank you Everyone,, God bless

1) Dead battery in key fob.
2) The knocking sound you hear is probably more like a tacking sound and that would be a valve lifter that had leaked down/collapsed. Leave the car at idle and have the oil come up to operating temperature and see if the noise goes away. Going over your mileage for an oil change by 1800 miles is not good and letting your car sit with that oil in is even worse. Good luck.

There are needle lifters that sometime leak down and collapse on the M113k and usually it sin't a big issue and it s=will pressure back up and the ticking will go away. Not really a big deal to do these lifters on the M113k if that's the case. Not a big deal so relax. You're going to be good!

Just post it so others can hear it too and we can all try and figure out what is the issue. There are a lot of intelligent and informative people on this forum but there are also a few that sound like they know what they are talking about and are actually clueless so be wary my friend!
