All IMHO on this. I have no real credentials on the topic but want to chime in...
Low mile pristine examples will appreciate. It's no mystery what happens...
Aggressive Depreciation years 1-10.
Prices stay the same for years 11-20. This is where the car looks old and out of style...
Slight increase in years 21-23. The cars become "rare" and have a cool factor. "You remember those cars?"...
Significant upside appreciation in years 24-30+.
What folks don't realize is what drives the appreciation (aside from "rare" or "limited production" cars).
The 20-30 year appreciation cycle (endless examples, 911 Turbo's, Smokey and the Bandit TA's, etc.) occurs when "grown ups" want the car the car they wanted when they were in high school, they now have significant discretionary income, and are willing to pay for it.
On the surface, its almost too easy of money from an investment standpoint. Problem is it costs $ for big garage (storage, pole barn, etc.) insurance, maintenance, etc. so the returns are not like this are not as high they appear.
