Why is rear lower than the front on stock ride height?

Researching on the stock ride height of my 2004 E55 and found that the front is 26.5 inches and the rear is 26.25 inches. I was wondering if anyone knows why the rear is lower?

Because it's sexier. I hate raked cars. It looks nice when the back is slightly lower, in my opinion at least. Plus when you sit in the car if you dump the front and have the back higher you end up sitting weird. The dash is going downwards and for me it feels terrible as I love sitting nice and low in the car with the dash high up. Obviously a slight change isn't gonna be noticeable but still.

Also, how are you measuring the ride height? The front wheel wells are larger than the rear I think.

The front dips when you brake hard going into a corner. It needs a little extra space for the wheels to turn without hitting the fenders.

Most likely you need to calibrate the suspension sensors. Just for grins and giggles, check your rear camber. If it is more negative that -2.2 degrees (and you did not purposely lower the car), then you certainly need to raise the rear of the car and recalibrate the sensors. Not difficult to perform this but you will need access to a Star or Xentry diagnostic system.

I measured from the ground to the highest point of my fender arch through the center cap of my wheel.

FWIW, I measured my car as yours; after calibrating the suspension sensors to the middle of the range, my car was 27" rear and 26 1/2" front.

Ride height is measured from specific points on the suspension or frame to the ground. Measuring from the wheel well arch to the ground is just a short cut method and dosen't really tell you relative height front vs back to the ground.
