VRP heat exchanger oil cooler remount

Hello all, I am planning a VRP V2 heat exchanger installation soon and had a question as to where or how those of you have remounted the factory oil cooler. I will be doing a split cooling and Bosch 010 pump upgrade on my 06 CLS 55 AMG as well. Also any tips on front bumper R&R?
Thank you in advance!

I took my cooler out. Not needed with how I drive and gave me plenty of room with out it there.

I was thinking the same thing -- with 9 qts of oil do you really need a cooler unless your driving cross country @ top speeds ?

Well mine has 2 coolers and one has a fan on it so that cooler on the bottom served no purpose for me.

Interesting, very interesting....

I drive 20-40 miles at a time. Mostly putting in traffic. Every week or so it gets a highway beatdown for about 5-10 miles.

About 1-2x a year it goes to the mountains for some spirited driving getting its *** kicked by my brothers tuned 335xi

Wondering if I can ditch the spare cooler as well....I hate its location and how I have it mounted...hmmmmmm

How much driving do you do with just one oil cooler Gary?

Hi guys, how are you capping off the oil cooler under the heat exchanger? I am pretty new to the M113k engine and Mercedes as whole so my other question is how many oil cooler does this engine have? Those of you that have the VRP heat exchanger are you in favor of it and what was the deciding factor over the PLM heat exchanger? Thank you!

Lots and oil temp is not a problem. Engine temp is at 180 so oil is even cooler without an engine running at say 190*. An oil cooler with a fan on it is more than enough so that dumb *** cooler on the bottom had to go. I will be running a roll race 1/2 mile event and will give even more feedback from that if you need it.
Also the other reason for ditching it was my secondary cooler is behind the driver fog light, that has been removed,so the 3/4 cooling lines to the cooler needed some room to run across underneath.

I've got a PLM myself. I love it because it just bolts on, no drilling or tapping required. Also comes with the brackets to mount the lower cooler.

When I asked vrp if they had any bracket kits for oil cooler like plm they stated no and that I would have to cut off my old brackets and have them welded onto the VRP unit. When I asked the difference between the two cores they stated theirs was the biggest but offered no objective details. Will the PLM unit new fit on the CLS 55 as well as the E55 it was designed for? Such as bumper clearance and brackets lining up for bolt holes etc. I get this is an E55 forum. Thanks all for your help! Shardful I will be in touch if I decide to go with an upgraded heat exchanger.

I think that removing your coolers, might be a big mistake. Do you really think that you know better then the AMG engineers who design and built the engine. They added these oil coolers for a reason. I just hope that you don't regret removing them in the future.

I agree to a point, but those same engineers designed the intercooler that really is too small to cool sufficiently or recover quickly - autobahn running an oil cooler maybe needed to help cool oil but @ 80 mph/2000 rpm not needed - lower IATs will keep heat down and maybe better choice

Buy a plm and not deal with zip ties or even removing coolers

What relation do engine air intake temps have to transmission oil temps?

Do not remove the oil cooler. Oil cools everything it touches.

Is the PLM HE a bolt on solution for an 03 SL55 AMG? I was also looking at the VRP Speed V2 HE. Looking for one that requires only minimun mods to be done. Thanks!

If you look in the SL55 section you will see a post / DIY from a member regarding the PLM HE install on a R230 SL55

Here's my install of the PLM heat exchanger on my W211 E55. I bought it from Shardul; it's a good deal.
