WTB 05/06 E55

Hey guys, just joined the forum because I'm tired of looking at beat to death e55's on CL, Auto trader and cars.com. I'd like to find a well cared for and maintained enthusiast e55 that isn't going to break the bank. I prefer black but would consider silver and maybe a few others. Mods are ok so let me know what you have! Thanks!

I know of an '06 for sale, 71k miles, silver on black, eisenman mufflers and renntech lowering module. Has a huge VMI record, was under CPO warranty. Wonderful car. PM me for details.

I have a 2006 E55 in Raleigh. I have owned it for 18 months and have done extensive maintenance and repairs, plus a stereo upgrade. The car had 137k miles on it when I bought it, and it now has 167k miles. I'm confident enough in this car's reliability to drive it to California over Memorial Day Weekend and will return to Raleigh before July 4th. If you are still looking then, we can meet.

@Blade Canyon
I am interested to know what all you repaired, I have 134k on the clock and am going into a full trans teardown and rebuild. I feel like I have gotten most known failures taken care of but I am seriously cautious taking this thing on an extended jaunt as it just left myself and my wife-to-be stranded at a wedding 2 hours from home in Sparta NC (We live in Charlotte)

@94jedi
OP, you are going about this the right way posting up, having a group of enthusiasts help you.

You are going to find a gem with a little patience; focus on recorded maintenance and overall condition NOT milage on the clock and you will be fine and dandy =D

New radiator, new idler pulley, welded exhaust leak, new alternator and voltage regulator, all new batteries, replaced airmatic with Strutmasters, new thermostat... throw in brakes, rotors, multiple sets of new tires, plugs, oil and fluid changes, refurb wheels and the new stereo, and I've more than doubled my original purchase price in 30 k miles. (I use a local Benz specialty shop, not a dealer.)

That said, I have driven the 800 miles from Raleigh to Atlanta and back many times, and the car is roadworthy. Getting rid of the air suspension is the biggest relief that I won't wake up outside of El Paso next week to a slammed car 500 miles from the nearest Benz shop.

I forgot to mention the all new fuel tank and fuel pumps, courtesy of Mercedes...

... AND that I had to pay a shop to remove the illegal window tint from the windshield. This had been a Florida car, but the windshield was so dark it was hard to see well at night.

And control arms (upper and lower) and ball joints.

Thanks for the info Blade_Canyon. Let's discuss when you return from your trip. As I mentioned, I wasn't really looking for a higher mileage car but it does seem like you've cared for yours well.

I'm not a mechanic by any stretch, but I can do fairly basic things on my own (I consider rotors and pads to be pretty basic). I had a BMW and was tired of the typical german car maintenance, although that car didn't have much in the way of service rec's. I hope these E55's aren't as bad as the typical German car, I really don't want something that's going to be a maintenance nightmare. Unfortunately, I've been pretty spoiled/lucky with my Infiniti M45 (knocks on wood).

My goal for this car is to just have a nice, powerful cruiser that I can have some "fun" with stoplight to stoplight, should the need arise, and to make my commute a bit more interesting.
*edit - I should add that this will be my DD so that's why the mileage is a concern.

I'd expect to spend months looking for a clean E55. It's getting harder to find nice one. One SF Bay Area member eventually gave up trying to find one here in the Bay Area and went with an E63 instead.

Have you thought about an '07-'09 E63? If you aren't looking to mod the car it would probably be a better choice. Nice ones are still in the $20k-$25k range though.

The E63's are awesome and for the right car, I may consider it as well but I know myself and I'm going to want to mod it. As I mentioned earlier, my goal is to have a nice daily cruiser that I can brawl a bit on the street with. Ideally, it would be a 600 whp car.

I get it. I'm working on finding a smog person now (CA sucks) and once that happens I'll be doing mods. I swore I wasn't going to do anything power wise to the car when I bought it.

You can still modify an E63, just not as extensively as an E55. There are LTH, resonator delete, X-Pipe, exhaust. Wiestec Engineering makes a supercharger for the E63, their are larger injectors, crank pulley, etc. I have custom exhaust headers, Phenolic intake spacer, larger injectors, and crank pulley, and my conservative estimate on power is roughly 530 Hp, and 475 lbs/ft. Any car can be modified, but the E63 doesn't need any modifications done to it out of the box.

Do you have a tune as well with those mods?

An Infiniti and any German performance car will have very different maintenance costs, IMO. You buy Japanese to escape maintenance, you buy German for the "solid" feel and performance. If you are looking for low miles to escape repairs....well I think that may not work out. Best of luck on the search.

Absolutely. Not here to argue that point. I got out of a BMW and into an Infiniti...never been really happy w/ the Infiniti.

Still looking...
