Can anyone tell me how to remove the shift knob?

For W210 - the piece at the bottom turns about a quarter turn - it is like a locking piece. Counter-clock-wise I believe. That relieves the pressure and them the knob slids up/off. The piece (nut) is usually diffucult to remove first time.
You can also use the "Man-Handle" method. Just grab it and pull it straight up with the bottom nut in place. You can also just push the new straight down with bottom nut on the same way.
They slide off easily - very easy to steal. Good Luck.

Will an aftermarket 210 knob fit on the 211 post? I don't want to have a new boot made and the center console taken apart without knowing it will work.

Thanks for the pics! I didn't realize the boot is a pressure fit against the surround. I thought it was clamped or screwed in.
I just went around the bottom of the boot and pushed it away from the surround, then lifted it over the knob, loosened the locking nut, and popped off the knob.
My old knob fit just right. Now I have to figure out how to use the boot to fit the old knob or just get a new one made.

E55 KEV,
Do you think the ML55, E55 (W210), and CL (W215) shift knobs are interchangeable? What about the G?
I'm looking for something special to go on my W208 CLK55.
