MB Service says"It's just a coincidence "! What does the group say?
I also called the dealership and on the phone they also told me they probably need it to re-adjust the parking brakes and I should not drive the car so they sent a tow truck to pick it up.
After looking at the vehicle they contacted me and told me my parking brake shoe had broken and it was not related to the work they did and it's just bad luck and pure coincidence that it happened just after I pick it up from them. They want $600 for the repair.
My rear pads and rotors were replaced with Mercedes parts about 8k miles ago and I don't drift around corners by stomping on my e-brake pedal and reaching for the release handle under the dash! WTH?!
What would you think if you were in my situation?

I don't have personal experience to offer except to acknowledge that your rationality will probably play to your benefit. A cool head can sometimes, at a minimum, get you a compromise of some sort with the dealer.

I appreciate you noticing. I'm old enough to have tried the other method enough!
The mode of failure for those brake pads isn't unheard of. I had a dodge magnum R/T for years and the rear parking shoes failed in the same manner.

FYI the parking brake on an MB is completely separate from the service brakes, so having had the rear pads/rotors done 8K ago really has nothing to do with the parking brake. MB uses a mechanically activated drum brake inside the hat of the rear rotor as the parking brake.
I think the real question is whether the dealership has to disassemble the parking brake cable/mechanism to remove and install the fuel tank. If yes, then this is certainly their fault, they messed up the reinstall & adjustment. If no, the coincidence for sure.

In 1993 I paid a Mercedes dealer to put a factory rebuilt motor into our 300D. Two days after pickup the neck on the radiator snapped off while I was on the freeway. I told the dealer I expected them to replace the radiator as a warranty repair, which they refused to do. Not their fault, they said, even though the most likely explanation was that they hit the neck with the new motor or overtightened the hose clamp.
The rebuilt motor came with a warranty booklet. It had multiple telephone numbers for Mercedes Benz USA that said "Call us if you have any problems with warranty service." The first numbers I called were disconnected. Finally some guy answered for MB USA in Florida. He said, "They're a private dealer, what do you expect us to do about it?" I said, "Your book here says to call you if I have any problems with warranty service, and that's what I'm having.." He said, "There is nothing we can do about it. You have to pay for a new radiator."

So, it is a known method!
