Will Swap E55 AMG Wagon Third Seat for Spare-Tire Set-Up
Folks:
My '06 E55 AMG Wagon came with the third-seat option, but because I frequently drive it in remote country, I'd like to install a spare wheel/tire instead.
Have any of you done this, and if so, how did it go?
Does anyone want to swap? My black leather seat is perfect.
Let's talk.
Thanks,

I had an E55 with the third row and looked at swapping out with another owner.
The bad news: ultimately we both decided it would be too much work after evaluating the different interior panels, seat belts, belt hangers, etc.
The good news: You can carry a full size wheel/tire back there - I did. There is enough space to fit a standard size front wheel/tire in the back. It can be used as a spare on either front or back.
Two modifications are necessary - both are fully reversible.. First, remove the lower seat cushion from the third row seat. It just pulls off, albeit with a lot of force. Then remove the footrest assembly - three torx bolts at the front of the well.
This opens up enough space to store a 245 tire & alloy wheel. You may need to rearrange storage of the tirefit inflator and tools, but there is space enough for everything. The car should have a jack and tool kit, so nothing additional is needed.
Somewhere I have a picture of the fitment in the well, but darned if I can find it. Will post a followup if it shows up...
Edit: Take a look at this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...pare-tire.html

I'll piggy back off of Shadow's post. I have third row and also have spare (inflatable). I only took out the foot rest and left the lower seat cushion as my third row is sparingly used by minions. The only down fall to this is that the kids feet are resting on the barrel of the spare wheel and when the seats are folded/put away (last closing) cover does not secure/lock into place like OEM. I remedied that with the rear mat and cargo mesh hooked in with the D rings. If it's not too hot when I get home I'll take a few photo's.

Thanks, guys. I took out the seat, and a front wheel with full-size tire just fits and allows a flat floor. Also bought an inflatable spare, which would allow more space, but will try that for fit (over brakes)before relying on it.
