What's the best pulley for road racing/track use?

Anyone here track their E55? If so, what pulley are you running? If not, what are your thoughts on the best pulley setup for spending 30 mins on the track? I was originally leaning towards a 77MM pulley, but after doing some reading - think I might have issues with high IATs here when the ambient is 80 or higher... I'm now leaning towards an 83MM with a DTK heat exchanger just to be safe, but I'd like to hear your thoughts...

Thanks!

Oh, also worth mentioning - I'll also be installing EC Mid-length headers!

If I was to do what you're doing and trying to track the car, I would stick with the stock pulley and improve the exhaust side. Long tubes and good cooling mods. If you want to do a pulley then nothing smaller than a 84mm.

I had some trouble with stock cooling and 77mm/midlengths. A upgraded heat exchanger made them go away.

I do NOT recommend the DTK heat exchanger. It's essentially a modified used radiator. Quality is horrible. Fitment is horrible. My top two choices would be PLM or Eurocharged.

Yes, I own one. The quality and fitment are so poor that it shouldn't be allowed to be sold. It's just a bunch of cheap parts welded together. There is also no actual proof that it cools any better than other aftermarket H/Es.

I just want to clarify your comment. You are saying that there is no proof that it cools better then other aftermarket heat exchangers. This would infer that is does cool better than the stock unit, as good as other aftermarket units, just not "better" than others. You are also stating that it is "cheap parts welded together" that perform as good as other units at a lower price point with no other set backs other then cosmetic.

I am just trying to keep in perspective all the options at all the price points. I have several parts from DTK and UPD and have run with tunes from a "can" from a common tuner and what i would consider THE tuner. I have been around this car scene for years and I am always amazed that the guys that have some user or opinion induced issue are always the vocal ones.....

AdamT

So what was the issue?

Condescending much? Haha.

Apparently the "issue" (like how I throw random words in quotes to add a condescending under tone like you did) is that he thinks the quality and fitment is poor. If you are interested in more details from his opinion on the unit he owns, you can probably ask it in about one sentence, without being a dick about it. Good luck with learning how to be social on the internet, I hope I've helped.

Have a good labor day weekend every one!

High boost is great for quick blasts, but for a 30min track session, i would run a stock pulley or maybe an 83mm. cooling is a must, even with stock pulley.

After a few minutes of WOT, the heat from all that boost will slow the car down with retarded timing etc, or break something if to high.

I track frequently, although not the e55 yet. I went with a 83mm btw

Yes they have. Search for 10 second club thread. A lot of different combos.
