Coolant Visit Workshop! P2073-002 short circuit to ground error code
So getting the Coolant Visit workshop message intermittently. When it does, it seems the cooling fan is not turning on. Ran STAR diag on it and got a saved code that is in title. When I'm ran the test it all came back fine though. Fan and controller are both built into the shroud i believe. Should i start with replacing that or does anyone have other suggestions of additional troubleshooting.
Thanks in advance

Same issue right now for me, it’s intermittent though. Comes and goes The message appears, the temperature shoots up and if I let her cool down for a while start it back up it goes away. Got the same diagnostic code as you mentioned. What did it end up being?

I was getting the red warning intermittently and turned out to be the plug receptacle for the fan. Pin failure from corrosion. Finally failed and it was running on high constantly. In the second Pic you can see pin 4 is gone and 1&2 are ready to fall off also.I wasn't as lucky as verminator and had to change out the fan. The plug and socket are not available separately, so $50 from local salvage from a E350. https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...onnectors.html

Yeah I have a feeling mine is going to be that control module attached to the fan shroud they don’t sell that thing separate because the fan wants to kick in when I tap at it and the wires and connectors look clean as a whistle

Having the same issue with mine currently
I’m currently in the same boat hoping you can remember what the fix was I’m starting to believe as suggested it’s the fan module and replacing the whole unit will fix the issue it’s throwing the code p2073-002 which is an short circuit to ground code any help would be great if you could remember anything as I don’t want to get a whole new unit as it is quite costly if it is just going to be a sensor

Changed the fan
hey mate I changed the whole fan and it sorted the issue then took the other fan apart and had a look some of the wiring was wearing away, my advice change the fan unit as a whole I got one off eBay for £40 so it’s worth a go and good luck

have you done the coolant temperature sensor, I also had to buy two fans as the first one I brought did not actually work, what are your exempt symptoms of the issue mate?

Did you also check the relay?

When I start the car in the morning till the water coolent temprature reaches 92C which is normal and keeps going to 95C and fan not kicking in, eventually it shoot up to 120C.and when i switch off the car and on again the fan starts at full blast till temperature cool down to 92C,but after some drive it overheat again due to fan is not functioning therefore i have to switch off and on the car then fan works. On the other hand when i switch on the AC sometimes the fan not kicks in, if not i have to switch on and off the car then fan works. Very weird issue. And i get time to time yellow coolent symbol and i noticed fan not working and starts overheat, same time i plug in the OBD and found fan 1 output short to the ground but it will be stored. Really frustrating

Hi mate, yeah all the parts brand new genuine mercedes, i changed the relay the one in front SAM fuse box which is similar to relay of horn, correct if that is wrong relay. I went to 3 AAA s garages here in dubai, they checked the wiring nothing was wrong 😢

if you get a washer fluid level message along with this issue then most probably you have a sensor problem , there is a sensor at the reservoir for the coolant level ... it is cheap , see if that fixes your issue

Yeah i had washer warning few weeks back due to broken pump on the

well i have no idea what is the relation , but for one year i had always two messages showing on my dash after driving for 30 minutes which is low coolant level followed by low washer fluid level and i replaced the fan, the radiator, and washer fluid pump because it didn't accrue to me that it might be related .... after that i decided to replace the sensor on the coolant reservoir tang and those two messages gone.........
