Unsolved exhaust smoke mistery!
Hello amg lovers!
i would really appreciate any help or clues to find out why i have this issue, so ill try to be the clearest possible.
The car: e55 2004
Problem: blue smoke coming out the passenger side exhaust
facts:* the odor is clearly oil burning
* it happens once every few days 6 to 10days and last for few hours of driving
* Smoke only in parking mode or when no throttle pressure applied for example in trafic
* No smoke when throtteling or full throttle
* the only factor i can think of that might trigger the car to smoke is when slaloming haviely with bump on the road or incline or decline car angle.
* new engine oil did not solve the issue
my questions: * why does it smoke from only the passenger side and not both?
* if there is a problem in the gasket if should be permanent, mine smokes onces every few days! How could this happen and how explain this?
No car mechanics knew why this is happening. Please help

it is the passenger side exhaust so cylinder 1 to 4. For now I did not check the ring because I have change all rings few month ago and I didn't drive the car more than 7000km from that moment.

You can get the number of liters of oil on the dash display rather than just the "level ok" message. Oil seeping into the combustion is usually head gasket, piston rings or valve seals on most engines.

it is showing 7.5 qts. For the record my oil change was 10days ago, have put 8.5liters or 9 qts as the manufactur recommended. Maybe the oil level sensor is bad or maybe not so should i wait another week and recheck for the oil to see if the level number decrease?

I bought my W210 with a bad oil level sensor and it showed a message on the dash about not being able to read the oil level. I'm guessing the W211 would show something similar.

i do remember on time have added 2l of oil but the oil level sensor showed only 0,3 qts increase! So i totally agree that the sensor might be bad. That is why i was suggesting dipstick.

No one seems to be surprised that the car smokes every few days! it can go up to 2 weeks with no issues and suddenly it smokes back again. How could you explain this? if there is an engine problem like gasket, rings etc.. i should have smoke on a daily bases but this is not the case.
No smoke on cold start or when I push the throttle when neutral or parking mode.

well if you just changed the rings a few months ago what was the reasoning for that - was it blowing smoke then and who did the work ? possibly a scored cyl wall was not cleaned up, improper break in for new rings to allow them to seat correctly when you got the car running again or you may have a valve guide that is worn and oil builds up and leaks down into the compression chamber -- compression test is the only way I know of to determine cause - also pull the plugs and see which cyl has the dirtiest ones

Updates on my case which have been solved!!
the reason of my blue smoke was simply a cloked pvc breather. It is the one that comes into the throttlebody. Because of a bad breather the oil pressure in the engine becomes high enough to let the oil enter the combustion chamber and therefore causes oil to burn and smoke from the exhaust.
A very simple fix which cost me less than 2$. No ring or joint seal were responsible for that.
Hope this help you guys
