Former CPO car better?
Hello,
Occasionally but very rarely I see used MB's that were CPO cars. I have seen some 2007-2008 E63's with low owners (2) and were CPO cars. Obviously the extended CPO has expired but does that fact that it was a CPO give you great confidence in a solid or potentially more reliable car?
thanks!

I would rather see one that has maintenance history rather then just being a CPO car. Things like fluid changes on time and at proper intervals doesn't really have anything to do with CPO or warranty.

Same thing with the 05 E55 I bought from Mercedes few years ago. Bought it used from MB Dealer and they wouldn't print out the history until I bought it and showed registration.

If you have access to the car you can pull the service history out of the CGW using Assyst Plus in STAR.

Thanks for the info. I thought I had heard that CPO AMG's are not as common and non AMG's. Anyway, good point on the maintenance history.

The maintenance and service history is important. Being CPO or not really doesn't matter, however, while the car was covered by CPO, the customer likely would have had any potential problems fixed rather than learning to live with them, so there is a chance that a former CPO car will have less problems, but it's certainly not guaranteed. That said, look for a car that has been taken care of (ie. problems fixed rather than ignored), regardless of CPO history.

Couldn't agree more. Get the records; being CPO doesn't mean much.

Yeah, I bought a CPO car from a used car dealer and of course once you buy it from a dealer, the CPO expires. Turns out 3 of the keyless go door handles were bad which could have been fixed under CPO including the driver's side. But I guess the previous owner didn't care and didn't get it fixed. So the used car dealer ended up footing the bill under a 60 day warranty. They weren't happy and I had to speak to the general manager to get them to cover it under state law.
