E55 Long Tube Headers

I have an exhaust leak at the manifold and figured it was a good time to just do headers. I know you get what you pay for but i really don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a set of headers. I'm looking at these and just curious if anyone has used them what they thought of them.

A couple of members have purchased these or their copies. They have posted pics and reviews on here somewhere. Sounded like they took a bit of work to fit but nothing too alarming.

I would pick Mid Lengths from a company that's reputable over long tubes from one that's not well known. I've bought Ebay headers for my E46 M3 Long Tubes and was a no name brand and paid big time in pain and suffering with the exhaust leaks. Right in between the collectors. Long tubes are best but if your on a budget and don't want to spend a lot then get good brand mid lengths I think you can find them for around 650-700 not positive just search.

I did find these cheaper on another site after posting. I am willing to spend more but i don't want to get to carried away. I was also looking into the Becker Performance headers too but they look pretty similar.

I have been through the leaky collectors on brand new headers. Before installing plug the end of the collector and fill the whole thing with water. If they leak water don't bother installing, send them back.

At that price point those are unlikely back purged or welded with any sort of penetration. Typically just glued on top and give up at the first sign of heat. If you’re not after performance, fix your leaking OE header. If you’re after performance, I’m sure there are better headers out there. Your choice and your money.

Is this from prior experience with these headers? If not why offering misleading information, I’d rather have someone who have bought these give us their thoughts.

That's fine buddy. You're more than welcome to use other people's thoughts on this and ignore mine.

Not to be rude, just don’t want others to be misleaded. Price could be one of many factors. It may be the fact they have many in stock, which they do. I’m currently trying to work something out with a supplier to really prove their quality, if all goes well I’ll have a post regarding them.

I would go with a set of Maximizer long tube headers: https://www.ebay.com/p/Maximizer-Exh...nce/1145113156

They have a pretty good welds and a merge spike in the collector. I have 4 local friends with E55s and all have this header now. None have reported issues. I did do a real street test against a C6 Z06 when I had Eurocharged mid lengths then an after results test with Maximizer long tubes. With mids I lost around a car to a car 1/2 from a 60 roll. With long tubes I pulled ahead of the C6 Z06 here's the after video:

Anything except the highest quality brands costing upwards of $3k are likely to require work to fit. It might be welding to install such as eurocharged. It might be cracking due to engine mounts, poor welds or materials. Some are so terrible they can't be installed without cutting and welding to avoid hitting things. Decide what you are comfortable with and what you are happy dealing with. I can't afford top of the line headers and I can't be bothered dealing with issues from poorer quality products so stock it is.

They're not. My friend Karpo bought them and the mid pipe didn't line up at all. Also the collector was leaking on both sides. It was an easy fix but not a true bolt on exhaust. They use to be sold by Project B5 but XS Power is the company that makes them. I believe XP Power parted ways with Project B5. The Maximizers come with a sand blast finish and a life time warranty. The mid pipes lined up fine on mine and all the others I helped installed.

This place is a joke.
Looks like those headers hang down really low. I have the Kleemann mid-lengths and haven't had any problems with them.

If you're on a budget just get mids.

All of the headers that you've all listed on this thread are thin walled China made systems that are just embarrassing to bolt onto a finely crafted, german engineered car. Don't get me wrong, it will "work" but is it worth all of that trouble? Half the time these systems require you to drill out bolt holes to match up due to high speed poorly supervised manufacturing processes which are done in the cheapest and fastest way possible. The ports don't match the gaskets, and half the time they're blocking 1/4" of the port. These companies literally make the exhaust for Honda Civics using the same materials and quality of work and they charge $49.00 on eBay for them.

For those that actually take pride in their cars and want the best system, you need to spend a little more and get something worth while.

We do make an E55 AMG system, and you can definitely see the quality difference in a properly made system. 304 Stainless Steel, and made in the USA using quality materials.

Why is the Mercedes platform around $1,000 more than the rest of the platforms you sell headers for? The CTS V LSA/LT4 are luxury cars same as a Mercedes and they have long tubes with mid pipes for around $2,000 vs $3,000 on the AMGs.

Its not that i'm on a budget i just cannot justify spending $3,000 for a set of headers. Just seems ridiculous. I am more then happy to spend the $1200 to get the maximizers. Seems like a lot of people run them and they are good quality. As of right now i am leaning more towards buying the maximizers anyways.

My guess is volume. Less sales to spread R&D costs over. I am interested too.
