Lowering...

What wheel size are you currently using? If 19"s. You can lower it using H&R and Bilstein suspension or Kleemann suspension. And also use #1 pad all around.

Lowering

No I have the normal monoblock 18's, thought all I would have to do is get springs, did not think I would have to get new shocks as well. Tell me about the #1 pads as well please.

What do you have an E55 or what? You don't have to get the shock although it is recommended when you get new springs because of the reason the new springs are lower than stock oems and the shocks are not made for those springs to rebound too. So it's best if you replace both of them at the same time and save yourself some headaches. If you replace just the springs itself the the shocks will mostly likely will not last you very long. Also the pads are rubbers that go on top of the springs. You can get those at your local MB dealer. You can get them in 3 settings. 1,2 and 3. 1 being the lowest you can go. If you have 18"s monos get #1. It will look very nice. Hope this helps.

Here is a pic of a W210 with No 1 spring pads and H&R springs on 18" Monoblocks.
There are two part #'s for the W210 from H&R, these are the V6/V8 spings which are slightly lower than the V8 only springs.

stephens,
That is the look I wanted, looks much better, does the lowering affect the ride that much?

Ride should be better since stock suspension is a more "floatier" than when the car is lowered. Better cornering if i might add.

Although Stephens' photo is *gone* I know that I'd like to do the same thing too. Any idea on cost of springs and labor?

If you have to do the shocks too why wouldn't you just do H & R coilovers?

TIA

TJC

ETA - Looks like H & R Sport Springs are around $260 for the W210 E55 (see http://www.wholehyper.com/springs.html) They lower about 1 1/2" - 2". Installation ??? and when you consider new *dampers* needed $$$$ ????

The photo is still there? As Jam said the car is a huge improvement over standard, it is the best mod to do on any W210 E55. Kicks the W211 E55 butt in the handling department.

It's *back* now, thanks! (Was a box with red X). Car looks great.

So what appears to be the cost of doing this? And you have to go to 'sport' or 'HD' shocks? Stephens - was this a 'springs' only mod? (Thought you couldn't do that)

More info, including cost, would help us - thanks!

The sport shock is the best, although I have heard good things about the Koni's. I can't remember the cost.

I had both W211 and W210 for about 3 months, until I sold the W210 as I chose not to trade it becuase of the pathetic trade in I was offered by the dealer. I sold it privately for an extra 10K

Still looking for a bottom line, ballpark estimate to drop 1 1/2" with springs/shocks (you have to do the shocks/dampers???) and how complicated / expensive to replace springs.

Stephens, did you do shocks with your H & R springs? Wasn't clear in your post.

thanks,

TJC

No I didn't and if the milage on your car is relatively low they should be fine.
