Hey Everyone,
So I found (and purchased) my 2007 e63 sitting at a huge Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler new car dealership. Random, I know...but its also why it caught my eye as it was super clean and only had 60k on the clock. It was a trade in and the previous owner was a big car guy and all the maintenance checked out so I purchased it.
When you purchase a car from this dealership, they give you this 'free oil changes for life' perk. My first thoughts were--- this sounds sleazy and I wouldn't get my oil changed at some dealer that doesn't know the car.
The other day, this nice lady called me from the dealership reminding me that I had free oil services and asked me if I wanted to make an appointment. She didn't pressure me at all. To note, they did a oil service before I got the car and the work order stated the spec oil, Mobil1. I asked if I could bring my own oil filter and she said of course. Also to note, when I bought the car, the sales manager said in passing that they have an ex Benz mechanic. No idea if that is true or not.
Anyways, my question is, would you personally let them change your oil? Risk? Money is money so I thought I'd consider it but wanted to get some opinions. I wouldn't want them to touch anything else so is it even worth it? Oh yeah, the dealership is also an hour away.
Thanks for the input.

Ask them to use the correct products, in my eyes it’s like asking “is it okay for a non-dealership mechanic shop to change my oil”. But I hope you do go there, literally free oil. Wanna be stingey get a dashcam, first notify your service advisor it’s there just for protection.

Not worth it to me with the dealer being that far away.
Dashcam---I love it, ha! Do the oil coolers need to be drained on the e63?

lol trust me, in the long run you will thank me. Hypocritical for me to say get one as I don’t have one, gave it to my bro. I am buying one soon, just sent payment for carbon fiber parts shipping.Originally Posted by farkis644

Tough call. I’d probably say NO since you only change the oil once or twice a year, and chances are a random guy will be doing your oil changes and not the ex-Benz mechanic.

to each their own. It’s an oil change, not an engine replacement. Just ask to use oem parts if possible, and recommended oil.Originally Posted by cfmistry

Wow. Cmon guys oil change... = Open 2 drain bungs, replace copper washer, you can replace the bolt/bung if you **** but its not required. Pour in the new oil, 8 or so liters as required by checking with a dip stick.. Any competent mechanic can and will do it fine and your level sensor should be able to tell you if electronically if by some miracle there is too much or little in.. Filter is ez mode too just take it out, replace filter and o rings jobs done. Again if this is too hard for a mechanic I don't know what they could possibly do..

You are correct. The problem is that large dealerships don't have mechanics doing the oil changes. Just a "lot boy" that they train to do so. I have seen cars like ours (large oil capacity) grossly underfilled enough times to stay away.Originally Posted by PieRat

Not sure it'd be worth the hour drive, but my indy changes the oil and filter for $20 when I bring the oil and filter. They even top up the fluids and rotate the tires so it's not that big a discount if you have to drive an hour. Plus MB is offering $125 off $250+ service til Sept 30th so maybe it's worth it to get Service A. So maybe it's worth it if you can get Service A for about $250 and use the $125. Load up on free donuts/snacks drinks and maybe get a loaner too.

There's a lot of things that can get screwed up. Over torquing and stripping the belly pan screws is common. I don't know what happens if you don't do the middle o-rings right... no oil pressure? Chinese oil filters that collapse because they are too restrictive, (don't ask) Over torquing a steel drain plug in an aluminium oil pan wouldn't be good either. I wouldn't even let the dealer do it for free here.

Honestly this stuff isn't that hard to even do at home.
If you bring in a MANN filter it comes with all the O-rings, they'll know what to do with them as soon as they get the assembly out
For as long as they get the right capacity of Mobil 1 0w40 in there you're all good. The drain bolts aren't THAT big of a deal to change every time you do the oil, I've reused mine multiple times.
I would invest in a dipstick and check the oil level manually and often. About every other or third fill up.

I would say Yes. I personally drain my oil cooler as it holds about 1/2 of a quart. But not all owners do this, so the choice is yours. Originally Posted by farkis644

Too many things that could potentially go wrong to chance it IMHO.
Lots of horror stories out there from "simple oil changes" gone awry.
My wife took her Honda Civic to Jiffy Lube years ago and they forgot to remove the old oil before adding new.

😂 how do you forget to remove old oil. Literally first thing to do. I think they thought it would be easier to overfill it so all oil oil comes out while new oil goes in! SmartOriginally Posted by Bahnstormer

Because they hire people that don't know anything about vehicles or what's involved with changing oil.

Nope, car was smoking lots out the tailpipe so I had her pull over. Immediately checked the dipstick because I knew she had the oil changed at Jiffy Lube that same day. The marker line was at least double over the normal level and the oil was blackish in color - called the store and told them what happened. Manager said not to drive the vehicle and sent out a mobile crew to help us. I informed the guy that showed up of my findings, he checked the dipstick and concurred with my assessment of them not dumping out the old oil before refilling.Originally Posted by w204_racing

Dude just get the tools and do this at home. For the price of an oil change at the dealer you can get all the tools necessary to get it done at your house.
Jack (harbor freight, buy a nice big one)
Stands (harbor freight)
2 drain pans from walmart (like $2 each)
A funnel ($1)
A box with some wrenches ($70 for a bigger one at walmart)
A big piece of cardboard or plastic or tarp to put under the car
For oil and filter just buy this kit: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...-0001803009-9l
Here's a god damn dip stick so you fill it correctly: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mercedes-engine-oil-dipstick-genuine-mercedes-mer-1020101072?ads_cmpid=352578559&ads_adid=2297821771 9&ads_matchtype=&ads_network=g&ads_creative=852283 62199&utm_term=&ads_targetid=pla-73092549984&utm_campaign=&utm_source=adwords&utm_m edium=ppc&ttv=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw_b3cBRByEiwAdG8WqnrX dFj5aDwUterC-9ibu004dAMAo3EuZ2na98D6OonNh1usrRz8choCPFAQAvD_BwE
It's really not that hard.
Oil drain plug replacements are listed here: https://www.fcpeuro.com/Mercedes~Benz-parts/E63-AMG/Oil-Filters-and-Lubrication/?year=2008&m=20&e=2125
Get it together, learn to do this yourself. It's basic AMG ownership skills.

That's a little overkill. Five quarts of Mobil 1 0w40 can be had for about $30 with a filter at Autozone. There's also a $17 Mobil rebate but you may have to pay a little extra for the filter. You could get another 5 quarts and just get the $12 rebate. Limit is 2. Originally Posted by MACEDON

You can also buy a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 from Walmart for about $25.

The only time I let someone else (non Benz dealer) change my oil they overfilled it by not taking out the second oil drain plug. I would stay away from anyone that doesn't work on these cars daily.
