Hi there,
i am going to be replacing my fuel sender unit on my 2003 e55 amg however, i have seen all new units have a fuel tank pressure sensor but the one I have on it now has not got one, will I need to add wiring? Or can I just change it over without having to connect the sensor?

Thank you

It’s not a sensor but a fuel pressure regulator. It’s there as it prevents the overpressurising. It doesn’t use or need any wiring. You’re probably confusing it with something else. Take a picture of what you’ve got and post it up here.

You are right, its a tank pressure sensor and it doesent need to be connected if your car dont have that wiring, however there are two different types of fuelcouplings on the sender units, male or female,be sure that its fit your pumpunit(check VIN) this have been discussed on the forum before.

If the tank pressure sensor has been added to the later versions, ignore my comment above.

There are two different versions of the sender and pump assemblies. Get the correct one for your car. PZEV and non-PZEV (partial zero emissions vehicle). Both sides must match or your pumps won't be able to have the sender hoses attached. You have the non-PZEV version. Search some of the threads I have posted in regarding fuel components for more information.

how about if I change the tops? The fuel was leaking from the plastic piece that goes into the hose as it broke, I'll get the febi filter and mod the hole to have it fit I read a thread on it so there's a new filter, i see a used one from Germany for sale I think the hoses will fit the couplers look the same, it's just annoying having to pay nearly 400 quid for a small plastic piece! Lol! Good old mercedes 😂😂

thanks again for your help

The pumps are supposed to be replaced every 60,000. They will go longer, but by the time the cover is cracked from age, it is probably time.

You can't just change the top. They only sell it as a whole assembly. I am in the exact same situation. Unless you have updated it recently you will need to change both sides at the same time as they updated them together. As pointed out it is regarded as a regular maintenance item... good times.

No extended warranty on them in the UK? We still put tanks in W211s all the time at work under warranty.

Pretty sure it's US only. Same with the SBC warranty that was recently extended. Well at least I know it's not up here in Canada lol. Sucks for the rest of us...those are 2 of the more pricey repairs on the 211
