r8 wheels on w211 e63 wagon?

i was just looking for nice, light, oem wheels and found that the audi r8 has staggered wheels (18x8.5 front and 19X11 back). i think that this might look a little (or a lot!) less subtle than my car right now; but, i love the lightweight (2007 AMG wheels and 2009 AMG wheels feel like they weigh 100 lbs each!) and the style is nice and airy. i am not sure of the width. anyone have any experience or advice on this? they are really nice wheels

The Audi R8 wheels will only fit if they are the correct bolt pattern, and the right offset. But you will definitely have issues with fitting a 11" wide rear wheel under your rear fenders.
As the 11" inches is measured by the inside and outside beads, so the wheel actually measures about 12+ inches from rim to rim. Now add the tire, and you got issues. Good luck!

From the looks of the R8, it seems as their factory wheels are of a high positive offset. You shouldn't have any issue finding affordable wheels that fit the W211 that are weighted well. Generally speaking the tires weigh more than the wheels when you start to go larger in size.

yeah, true. but the tire on the audi is a 305 whereas on mine it's a 285. only 20mm difference.
the centerbore is smaller on the audi but that's fixable. the audi has an offset of 50mm and puts the inside of the rim WAY into the car (-189.7mm vs -153mm for stock!)
the outside edge is at 91.2 whereas the outside of the stock is at 75.3. there's probably enough clearance on the outside but on the inside? who knows? i'll try to measure inside clearance and we'll see.
thanks for replying!

Only 20mm. I never seen or heard of anyone fitting a 305 on the rears of a E55 or E63.

i'll measure the clearance and let you know my rather crude measurement.

i was just out in my garage (cold but not nearly as bad as the midwest!!!) and adjusted my wheel bearings on the front. while i was at it, i measured clearance in the back. there's 38mm clearance between the tire and the inside of the car. note that this is the tire! if we were to only compare tire width (foolish) we'd conclude that fitting a 305 in there is not a problem. even with the 8mm extra of offset. but, let's look at rim width:
an 11" rim INSIDE is 279.4mm. a 9" rim inside is 228.6mm. in both cases, the tires (305mm and 285mm) are bigger than the rim (inside or outside). by doing this, we have established that clearance or width of the tire/wheel combination is dominated by the width of the tire. so, we can conclude that a 305mm tire should fit even with the increase in offset. if we're to believe the numbers, the clearance should be 38mm-(20mm/2+(50mm-42mm)=20mm. this looks like it works. i think i'll try to find a bent or destroyed rear R8 wheel and let you know.

No problem.
295/25/20 were on my car. Fit nice and look badass because of the width.
My next size will be the 305/25-20. I like that fat tucked look from behind.

The only problem is the 25 is such a short side wall you have to be very cautious while driving to avoid pot holes.

I don't think running wheels that have a front diameter thats different from the rear is going to work well on these cars...

it works just fine on the w211 AMGs as they are rear wheel drive. if it were a 4matic, it surely would be a problem.

Doesn't matter whether its rwd or awd. What matters is the overall rolling diameter difference between the front and rear wheels. You can always correct that with the tire sizes like the car won't recognize if you're running a 245/40/18 vs a 245/35/19.

And here's a pic of my e63 wagon aired out with 19x11 wheels on the rear. I'm running 285/30 tires and if I went with a higher offset wheels then I'd be able to clear a 305 with no problem.
