Concurred, doing frontal cosmetic works this weekend. But we’ll get my other three E55 buddies together and roll down PCH.

Oh, just found out I need rear pads while installing new wheels, thanks D!
Gonna do those too this weekend.

BTW, anybody looking for a set of stock 06 E55 AMG wheels and tires?

hey guys, would like to pick your brains on a related subject. over here in Oz there's a guy selling this set of wheels. he tells me they are genuine AMG but i cannot see any AMG stamping on the front of the wheel? supposed to be 19 x 8.5

I asked what model they came off and he said an ML. when i google, i cannot find any shots of an ML63 with this style wheel (unless they are an option on a lesser spec?). The only model i can see attributed to this style of wheel is the SL65 and the wheels definitely have AMG stamping on them.

My gut feeling is they are replicas. I've asked him to take a photo of the back of the spokes so i can see all the specs stamped on them.

thoughts?

I’d be suspicious too, most if not all OEM AMG wheels I’ve seen are clearly stamped unless they’re been painted but will still show markings. Even my 13 y/o stock AMG wheels are stamped. I’ve seen some wheels that are stamped with AMG emblem that looks suspicious as welll.

they are priced ok if they are replicas (a bargain if genuine 2 piece) but, yeah, not having an AMG marking on the face of the wheel makes me think they are replicas.

i found an old thread about the SL65 wheels on the E55 and apparently they bolt up without needing spacers, so hopefully these turn out to be ok and I can buy them. apparently they are a very heavy wheel, but, i am not planning to race the car so that shouldn't be an issue.

thanks for the feedback

*to the OP, sorry for the thread hijack, but i thought it would be ok seeing as you're no longer selling yours.

I couldn't be happier with my set, although this spring I'd like to have the centers painted darker.

ML's never came with these wheels. No AMG stamping on the front is suspicious, good idea to see the back. These are AMG style IV multipiece, only came on the S65, CL65, and SL65. Also came on the SL55 and CLS55 with performance package. I think the SLK55 with performance pack had them in 18". The ones off the SL and CLS have perfect offset for the 211, the wheels will sit flush with the fenders. The ones off the S and CL have higher offset so I think you may need spacers

pretty sure they're replicas. they are not staggered and definitely have no AMG markings on them at all. he never sent me a pic of the country of manufacture either. another thing that leads me to believe they are replicas.

they are 19 x 8.5J with +35 offset. anyone know if that is likely to clear the brakes on the W211? if so, i reckon i can get them cheap enough to make it worth wile buying them and will refurbish them prior to use.

from his photos, the markings on the back are as follows:
19 x 8.5J
ET 35
785kg (assume load rating here?)
08 02 (assume this might be manufacture date?)

hard to tell from the photo if they are actually a two piece rim or not? (being replicas that is not a given)

Can't tell from the photos, but I would say 99% of replicas are 1-piece so that should be an easy giveaway. Also I'd imagine that 19" AMG wheels would be staggered but that's just a hypothesis.

Authentic sets were staggered, 8.5" wide fronts and 9.5", 10" or 10.5" rears with varying offsets depending on if S, SL, etc. I think mine say made in Austria on the back. Stock front E55 wheels are 18x8 ET30, not sure if a +35 offset will clear the brakes. If they're cheap enough they could worth buying as a second set of wheels, although the back might look a bit funky with the skinnier wheel
