BELT SYSTEM OVERHAUL, STILL GETTING SLIPPAGE!

Hey guys, i have an '05 e55 w/ 83,000 miles

Replaced over the weekend:
- Supercharger bearing (Nachi)
- Supercharger Tensioner (FCPeuro)
- Belt Wrap Kit (VRP)
- Supercharger belt to fit belt wrap kit (VRP)
- Titanium supercharger nut (VRP) 40nm with plumber tape

- Drive Belt Tensioner (FCPeuro)
- Idler Pulley (FCPeuro) 15nm with thread locker blue
- Drive Belt (FCPeuro)

Whenever i step on the gas under 1000 RPM i can hear the belt squeak which is annoying after spending all this time and effort to button up the system. Ive put probably 20 miles on the car since - Any advice?
I didn't use any belt dressing spray because im unfamiliar with the product, does it really do anything? maybe similar to break quite ?

Stock Supercharger pulley, not sure the spec length on the belt, VRP says you need a longer one when you order the belt wrap kit so that's what i did.

Did they send you the belt with the kit, or you ordered one separate? What's the part number of the belt you got?

Are you sure its the sc belt and not the auxiliary belt?

Im really not sure what it is is other than a chirping noise when getting over the ~1000 rpm mark. hard to diagnose because it only happens when driving.
I went down this road to solve the slipping issue all at once and am frustrated to still be experiencing slippage with all new parts

I talked to someone at work about the belt dressing and they said not to use it because its basically Armor All for belts and causes a huge mess under the hood.

You could try to monitor battery voltage while driving to see if the generator is slipping when it chirps!
I agree with not to use any beltgrip spray, just a sticky mess everywhere and it shouldnt be necessary.

That's a pretty good idea actually, just have to figure out how to hook up a volt meter all the way to the battery from the cabin lol

Maybe easier to turn the ignitionkey to first position and press tripcounter button three times, that will bring up voltage in the instrument 😉

Will that set the instrument cluster to show the voltage even while the car is on and driving? so itll show voltage fluctuating in real time? if thats the case then really is a hidden gem (or maybe just to me!)
Sometimes ill try to get into that menu by pressing R three times and nothing will happen, if i were to check actual oil level for example - but hey thats a separate issue

Even with Shardul's belt wrap kit I was noticing belt dust. I modified the kit to get the new idler pulley up and over to increase the wrapped area under the belt. You have to raise the top of the rear bracket by welding on a triangular piece of aluminium to take a new raised and over threaded hole for the idler pulley axle bolt. You also need to try a coupe of belt sizes and pick the one which is the hardest to get on which puts the tensioner to maximum load. This is a 74mm fixed pulley.

Check the friction side of the pulley for coloration from heat. Did you check the shim distance? As they get older they warp and just like rotors part of it grabs better than the other, that’s where you get the chirp and slip at high rpm.

Hey thanks, i didnt take pictures of the pulley but i definitely noticed wear and blue discoloration, you can also see it from the front on the outer ring. So thats most likely the problem is a worn pulley - Do you (or does anyone) know how to test the SC magnet whithout tearing apart the car? I called VRP and they suggested that it could be a weak magnet or a bad pulley.

I have a stock 90 mm pulley, not looking to get a tune as i live in Boston and the car is already plenty fast! Whats the smallest pulley i could go with without a tune? If i were to price out a smaller pulley + tune my gut feeling is itd be roughly the same price as an oem new pulley (~1350$)

The chirp noise at low RPM sounds like the supercharger clutch. Check shims, clutch wear. Belt slip usually happens at near peak power, where Torque and HP cross over on the curve, not at low RPM. Low rpm is wear the clutch kicks in and may slip and make noise.

Thanks for the reply, so you'd suggest changing the alloy clutch plate and potentially SC pulley? are the magnets a common point of failure?

There are times where ill stomp on the gas and she wont take off, i thought maybe i was in too high of a gear, could this point to magnet failure? only happens sometimes, other times it throws me into the seat

You should test the magnet to verify but the problem is your sc pulley. Had the same thing awhile ago. You can run 83 with no tune in any conditions. Smaller than that isn’t safe if you are at sea level.

Thanks for the reply, any advice on how to test the magnet?
