Fumoto Oil Drain Plugs?

Hey guys, it’s time for my 3rd oil change under my ownership and I’ve always wondered about the quick release oil drain plugs that you permanently install in the drain pan. Does anyone have any experience with them? Would be awesome to not have to replace the washer and plug every change!

They are well made and work well. Draining engine oil is a simple, quick, easy, mess free task.

The concern is they result in reduced clearance between the sump and the ground. Depending on the vehicle this may or may not be a problem.

Thanks for the input. My car is stock ride height and I don’t plan on any major changes under my ownership so I’m comfortable losing a little clearance.

Most people say they work really well but they drain pretty slowly. Fine as long as you are happy leaving it open, doing something else for a while and coming back to finish the job later. Otherwise pumping the oil out the top is easy and mess free.

With an extractor pump like mityvac. Easiest way to change oil in my opinion but there is always a lot of argument about the best way to do it.

Is it really that hard to remove two plugs and drain the oil once or twice/year,why risk it with some type of valve with a lever? maybe time to buy an electric car instead 😀👍

Not at all! Just a process to order the plug and washers each time so I was looking for a genuine opinion about an alternative not some sarcastic jackass.

Probably also clears it out the best with the shape of our pans. I’ll have to give that a serious thought.

You can also attach a hose to the valve and drain your oil directly into your waste oil bottle, no need for a separate collection pan. The only reason I know about them is I am thinking of getting an aluminum pan for the other car and the drain plug threads are easy to destroy.

I have the fumoto valves. They work great.
They are in fact slower to drain, but it keeps it very clean. The valves sit up higher than other components (sway bar) so i'm not worried about clearance.

I'm old school, remove engine covers, and drain from the bottom, and hit the oil cooler as well.

I have the Fumoto on my CLK55. It interfered with the belly pan, but I tossed that thing so it's no longer a problem. I like the valve because I can just reach under there and open it without jacking up the front end or using ramps to pull the plug. No leaks in over a year and a couple oil changes.

My only fear is that if the impossible happens, and the valve opens for whatever reason. Your going to have big issues on your hands with your engine seizing up.
I'll stick with my old school tried, tested and approved drain plug.

Yeah, I chickened our and ordered plugs and washers from
FCP. Trying some liquimoly this time around instead of Mobile 1. Anyone else used it before? Just going with 5W-40 from them but bought 2 5qt jugs instead of the kit. Lord knows my car will burn/leak at least a quart before next change.

I don't blame you one bit.
