Tire recommendation!

Hey all,

My 2005 E55 came with Goodyears Eagle F1 tires that are in near new condition but I really don't like how they ride ( rough, noisy ). Back in the day I had a 2006 E55 with factory Conti's and they were decent but didn't wear well. I am looking for street use tire and leaning toward Michellin Pilot A/S 3+ ....any other recommendations?

thanks!

I think you chose wisely. Any of the major brands with similar specs as the A/S 3+ will be more comfortable and quieter while still delivering acceptable performance IMHO.

I would recommend Continental ExtremeContact DWS06, they're also All-Weather. I personally have them on both my E63 and X5 M.

2005 E55 AMG
I just purchased Michelin Pilot 4S as I don't daily drive my E55 and it won't see snow. Having them installed this week.

I sell a lot both of these. I prefer the Michelin A/S 3+ myself, which is what I have on my E55. They Continental is no slouch, but I like the ride and performance of the Michelin.

And if you want a High Performance Summer Tire Continental offers their ExtremeContact DW. I really like this tire a lot, but we get occasional snow here in VA. And that definitely wouldn't work for me.

There is certainly nothing wrong with Michelins, their an outstanding tire. I just have no experience with them, as I've always used Continentals/Pirellis and a few others.

I run the Yokohama ADVAN Neova and I love these tires.

Low to no road noise, they provide instant hookup and look amazing. I do live in Los Angeles, so there's not much rain (and the rain I've driven in they've performed well). If I move to Seattle I think I'd need to swap them out though.

poop
dry, Michellin pilot ps4 or SS. Wet Michellin a/s 3. I have those of several of my cars, zero drawbacks other than price. Impressive in all categories
I had conti extreme dw on my e55; good traction, got noisy though and wore out fast. I went with kumho Ps91 and they flat spot quick when parked, especially when cold. they vibrate bad for the first 15 mins until they warm up. After they warm, they are perfectly smooth. I had the same issue with my bridgestone s04s

My experience is this. I’ll bet there are people with more knowledge / experience here but just my 2c. I’ve had 19 cars by now currently own 4. If you can afford Michelin’s go for them. And to me it is worth for one reason. Handling wet/dry doesn’t drop so significantly with thread degradation. Even at 4/32s left it’ll have at least acceptable grip. Cars I have owned would be predictable with not much more road noise than when the tires were new. Car cells planted without any weird movements while driving. To me the tire is worth anything if the grip and resistance to aquaplaning remains solid throughout tire life. Good luck with whatever you choose!
