Salvage value / possibly for sale - 2006 wrecked E55 WAGON
Anyone want my wrecked wagon?
https://www.copart.com/lot/59896739/
I can keep the car and settle with insurance for $4900 less then what their total loss off was. Considering it. 76K one owner miles - motor still runs perfectly. I actually have all MB dealer server records and a host of paperwork, etc. both keys....
I really don't want to drag this back to my house and part it out (no space - other projects) but still trying to be made somewhat whole on this debacle. Right now - I am looking at getting about $15K without the vehicle, or $9500 and keeping the car.
Thoughts?
Interest?
Sigh.

This place is a joke.
The only big money parts are the engine, trans, and brake calipers, one of which looks damaged, seats, so, not much there to make your money back. Everything else is just an e320 wagon. Where do you see $5k worth of parts on it just to break even, then your labor and the hassle. It's also not worth fixing. Someone could buy yours and an E320 wagon and swap EVERYTHING over if they really wanted, but then what do you have? A 55 wagon with a E320 vin#. Meh... My advice, take the full payment and move on with your life, unless someone really thinks its worth more than 5k and will pay you in advance.

One brake caliper is not only damaged - it's missing when the driver's rear got ripped off the car. Most of it is in my recycling bin
So - I should just let it go through auction - I don't have the time for parting it out. (Engine and trans is really good - one owner, all records, etc) but it's jut not worth it. And there are way too many specific parts - rear valance, exhaust(?) and other AMG $$$$ parts - that I can't see anyone fixing it - even though for me it would be a labor of love.

I remember your original post about the insurance payout. Did you ever seek legal advice? Why such a low payout? Could you not sue the at-fault driver (thus forcing their insurer into court) for the difference in market value from the insurance payout? Apologies if I'm being too nosey, you don't have to respond.

I had a concussion and may still go the personal injury route - but don't want to be tied up with medical tests and visits, etc. I had about 6 weeks or symptoms and everything has pretty much resolved and I am not one to be dishonest about my injuries.
This particular insurer was the insurer for both parties. To use the appraisal clause, I had to move the claim to my policy. And personal injury would be against the other driver's policy - but the attorney I consulted said to be prepared to go to court, as they are not known to settle.
I have not at all felt like I am in "good hands" if you know what I mean. And am currently looking at different companies, agreed value policies, increased daily rental car per diem (I won't drive a Corolla for 30 days, etc). And talking to everyone tangentially involved in the insurance process to get their take (lawyers, rental car folks, body shop people, etc)
Overall, when not at fault at all, this has been a horrendous process. I could see taking a hit (both personally and financially) if I were at fault / did something stupid - but that's not the case. It's really galling - but I have to weight how much of my life I am willing to devote to trying to get whole - and the cards are totally stacked against you.
And not nosy at all. No one in my family had ever been in an accident like this - so it's all new. If someone can learn something / avoid similar strife if I share - I am all for it.

I was well pleased with the way geico handled my one and only insurance claim, plus they were about half the cost of progressive, Maybe a little bad publicity would motivate your crooks.

Unless you have a connection in the body shop area I would let it go. Sucks. 25k car. Someone will save it. From the prices on parts I have seen. The transmission is worth more than the m113k. They are now being junked for tranny issues. 2K to 5k are estimates so is it with it yes. But it's a whole lot of trouble and work. Sad thing is the insurance company will get 800 dollars from a yard,

I have a wonderful friend who runs a body shop - he and his brother looked at it and looked at it and tried to think about making it feasible - but there are SO MANY High $$$ AMG specific parts - exhaust, wheel, brakes, suspension... and sadly the roof was tweaked and a slight wrinkle in it / rear hatch didn't close. COULD it be saved? Yes. Does it make sense to do it to the level that I'd want it? No. Signing it over Monday. :-(. RIP....
I will advise when it is going up for auction in case anyone wants the engine / trans.

This breaks my heart. I have a 2004 E 500 wagon and I could see that engine slotting in beautifully (Although my own drivetrain is in great condition). I think even the electronics would be compatible! However, like you, I have a life other than having parts cars in my driveway. I am truly sorry for your loss (and perhaps mine if you were to have sold it in the future

I hope so. I would like to watch it to see how difficult or easy the repair is. I'm thinking Samcrac bought it as it was a Florida bidder who won, and he is buddies with Legitstreetcars who just bought an E55 wagon.
