Noise after swapping over to 5 piece billet aluminum pullies

I recently swapped over to the 5 piece billet pullies as my idler was to on its way out.

After installation, it was fine and and could make out the difference as it was quieter until the next day. I started the car in the morning and it started squeaking and would go away after about 15 minutes. The noise has increased since and it’s a week now. The noise is really annoying and embarrassing to drive. The noise however goes away after about 15-20 minutes of driving.

I’m sure many member here have upgraded to UPD/VRP pulley kit. Anyone faced any such issue? Please help address this.

Car is stock. Is it the belt? I used the old belt as it looked good.

Pull the belt off. Spin each pulley by hand to see if one is bad or rubbing something. If not put a new belt on it.

I guess there wouldn’t be an issue with any of the pulley as all 5 of them are new. The noise completely goes away after driving for more than 15-20 minutes.

I will be however changing the belts as a preventative measure to ensure that the belts aren’t the issue. Will be getting this done this weekend.

Anyone faced a similar situation?

Sure, will have it checked while changing the belts and report back over the weekend if the problem has been addressed.

Do you’ll think of any other possibility other than the belt? I’m asking as I can get it done while the car is in for the belt change.

As tlambert was eluding to (correct me if im wrong)... bad tensioner, could be bad pulley..... something out of alignment slightly... aka missing washer or on the wrong side of the pulley... that would make it slightly offset.... or just a belt thats been worn to the old pulleys and will know have to wear to the new pulleys

Make sure the double idlers are installed correctly, they look almost identical even if installed backwards. You can also take off the SC belt and start the car. If the noise goes away, you'll know it's either the SC pulley, the double idler (front one) or the belt itself

Part number?

I’d like to know if Gates K080810HD is the correct part for replacement supercharger belt (stock car). I like the Green belt as it has good reviews by members here and looks good in the engine bay.

Regarding the accessory drive belt, what would be the best options to the OEM?

Same thing happened to me when I went with the 5pc pulley kit + water pump pulley from VRP. A couple of the pulleys are smaller, so you'll need a shorter belt. I believe 5060960 belt number is what I went with, and the noise went away.

Thanks for your input. I'm glad it got solved with a belt replacement for you, hoping it's the same here.

Did you replace both the belts?

For a stock car, most (myself included) use the K080505HD (50.49 inches). IIRC that's just a tad shorter than the OEM belt, and the next one up K080510HD (50.95) is slightly longer than OEM. The K080810HD you mention is 81.04 inches and would be way too big

I think he hit the 8 key instead of the 5 by accident.

Thanks for your input. Yes indeed it was a typing error.. I meant K080510HD

You’ve been using the K080505HD with stock idler pulley setup or the billet aftermarket pulley kit?

I have the UPD 5 piece set up. I don't think the pulleys are any bigger...they're just aluminum and not plastic. My friend uses K080505HD as well and all his pulleys are stock. Pretty sure both our belts fit the same. Very easy to slip on and off

thanks KAMG, appreciate it. I’ll be buying the K080505HD. Hope is available here if not a few days wait if I order it online.

I see most upgrade to heavy duty Supercharger belt, what about the other belt? Is there a green fleetrunner version for that too?

I haven't looked into that but I'm guessing not...otherwise a lot of people would be running 2 green belts
