Spare tire
Just returned from my dealer who had an 05 E55 on the floor. I opened the trunk and found the elusive spare tire....from the factory. He's now checking on price to have it installed in my 04 which has a hole without a tire. Any ideas on cost before he calls me with his?

I had a flat with 1,200 miles on the car. Flat kit was useless. Incredibly a guy in a van came along who had an air compressor and a plug kit. Asked me if I'd like him to fix it for $25? As I was on my way to see a new client and would have had to cancel while waiting for Mercedes' flat bed to show, I readily agreed. I'd have paid him $100 at that moment in time. I tipped him $20.

the kit worked fine for me. had a flat - tire pressure monitor told me before there was a problem - I watched the pressure air down slowly - realized I would not make it to my destination - pulled over and faster than you could change a tire it was up and running with the leak fixed. large blowout or sidewall hole forget it! but the typical nail in tread works fine.

I rarely carry any luggage, so I just keep a full size front wheel and tire in my trunk at all times. When I had a blowout after owning the car for 3 months, the dealer screwed me by charging me around $500 for a new tire, labor to mount and balance, and for the tow since it was a road hazzard which is not covered by warranty. The dealer unbeknownst to me also reordered me a can of the $55 German fix-o-flat that proved to be useless with the blowout. I received a letter that the part I ordered was in. They couldn't tell me what it was but when I went to the parts dept a few weeks later, I was handed a new cannister. They then handed me a bill for $55, at which point I told them to shove the cannister up their ***.

Yeah, I bought 2 more cannisters - took a month to get as they were backordered from Germany - not a good business model if you're selling a car with no spare. I do have a complete 2nd set of tires and wheels, maybe I too should keep a front in the trunk. Chill, how do you fasten the tire so it doesn't move around in the trunk? mp

How to hold extra tire/wheel in trunk
I use bungee cords and hook them onto the net holders on each side. Works fine with no movement. No movement is important to me since I have added a subwoofer at the rear of the trunk compartment.

i could check my car, but i'm traveling this week and did not look.

thanks,
Gareth

I'm not sure if this will work in the W211 but it worked great for my C32 which came without a spare...
For a fullsize tire and AMG wheel the dealer wanted somethng like $1200. I bought the same exact setup from tirerack for $500. Then I checked out a C320 at the dealership and got the part numbers for all the hardware that holds down the spare (the bucket and the adaptor that the bucket screws into) as well as the whole toolkit that fits inside the rim, including a jack, lugs, lugwrench, etc.
Surprisingly enough, everything fit perfectly. My E500 didn't come with a fullsize spare, it's just a small steel rim with a doughnut tire, so I'm pretty sure a fullsize wouldn't fit without a little modification.
