Rear caliper bleed

Forgive me for dropping in, but I think you guys have the same problem and this is quite a busy forum.

How do you bleed the rear calipers?

They have what looks like a hex type fitting. Normally I would use a hose on a standard bleed nipple to avoid contaminating pads with fluid, but I’m not sure how I would do that here. Something I am missing / a special tool?

My car is a CLK55 running facelift 6 pot fronts and 4 pot rears, if you are curious.

Box end wrench on the bleed valve with hose connected through the box end.

Are we talking about the same kind of valve? I’m looking at what appears to be a recessed hex.

This place is a joke.

Look on the opposite side of the caliper. The recessed hex is a blank plug, not to be disturbed. Any chance the calipers were installed upside down, or swapped left to right? That would put the bleeder at the bottom which won't work.

Ahh... the bleed valve is on the back.

I was looking at the blanking plugs thinking they were for bleeding, because they are
in the same position as the fronts...

Thank you!

Our front calipers have bleed screws both inside and outside.

Yes, same, but the position on the caliper is also different. Inside-side, rather than inside-top.

To be clear, I should have been able to spot that!

Don't sweat it. We all learn from each other here. 👍 There are internal passages in the caliper to allow fluid transfer. Works best when pistons are retracted at pad change but still flushes most, if not all, of the old fluid out when pressure flushing with DAS. 👍👍

07' E63
I'm completing the last items of my restoration/Mod project on my 2007 E63 that I started at the beginning of CCP Virus Outbreak, yeah pinch me its been a year now!, but I thought I'd chime in here. Although, I have the bumper off to replace the Compressor, Condenser and radiator (best to be done together as they are literally connected together and thus the trans cooler, A/C Lines and P/S lines can be put back together on the bench before dropping-in for installation!!), I have to admit that when I tried to bleed my brakes, the fronts went smoothly via having someone pumping the pedal. The rears however were terrible!! I could hear the air being pushed through the lines, so I'm going to have to shamefully pay to have the shop do it!!! After trying to do this using a home-made pump that has worked well for the Transmission and Power Steering Bleed, I made a royal mess trying to do the brakes even after thoroughly protecting the bay with a healthy supply of plastic sheeting and shop towels!! Anything over 12 PSI leaked all over the place! And No, STAR does not work for my non-SBC brakes.
