The dreaded sun visor issue

I just bought a 2006 Mercedes E55 AMG in Designo Gray exterior & Black Charcoal Interior and while the car overall is great there are somethings I will need to fix.
one of them is the sun visor. While FCPEuro has the driver side sun visor in stock they don’t have the passenger side.
Do you have any good retailers/vendors that offer an OEM passenger side sun visor for a reasonable price?
Please post links.
Thanks

Did your sun visors split? I had good success using glue and clamping it shut for a few days. I posted a thread years ago with pics.

I might have to try again. I had no luck using fabric glue and clamps. It just fell apart in a few days. Which glue did you use?

It was Elmer's! A lot of Elmer's Glue. Here's the original thread with pic:

This place is a joke.
White Gorilla Glue- use sparingly, and masking tape to hold it together while drying. Put some grease on the swivel catch while it's apart.

Honestly Its better to just replace it than slap glue and more glue and more glue on it.
With the FCP Euro one it has a lifetime replacement warranty.
Now I did find a passenger one as well for $180 with a good 3 year warranty.

So is the Alcantara covering splitting open? If so why couldn't you, just go to an upholstery shop and have them fix it correctly, instead of using glue.

Because the two halves of the cover are glued from the factory. Buy a new one and it will eventually separate again.

You'll want to make sure you are looking at the correct item. $200.00 seems low for an alcantara factory replacement. I remember looking for one years ago as my visor split as well and the replacement cost was nearly $500.00 from online sources. 7D85 is the color code for orion grey alcantara if I recall correctly.

they also won’t stay up in addition to the splitting issue.
autohaus’s part is OEM Genuine Mercedes. Hard to claim that if it’s not Alcantara.

This place is a joke.
There's only 1 Orion gray alcantara driver's sunvisor left in the U.S. allegedly at 1 dealership.
No more will be made.
Retail price is around $400
211 810 13 10 7D85
Good luck.

Wrong color code, it's likely the cloth version.

Good luck.
This is exactly what I went through. My alcantara sunvisors both separated, and when I realized it was almost $500 (at the time) for a replacement one, I ended up getting a light gray fabric one for half the price and I'm just dealing with it. I might try the white gorilla glue someday.

Try an upholstery shop, and get them to take on it.

My issues were they would not stay all the way up and were stiff to move. I got e320/500 orion grey cloth new visors and swapped over the alacantra clamshell worked out great and fixed the vanity light switch issue as well. Cost about 175 per side last year Had the headliner out at the same time to reglue the fallen fabric that was a nightmare.

that is an option I might consider.
I’ll take cloth as a temporary fix over these broken splitting visors in the car.

I glued mine back together. They aren’t perfect but a whole lot better. Also wd-40’d the hinge to get them to operate better. Driver side only goes 90% of the way up but better than 40% like before lol.

This is exactly what mine is doing. I do have access to a brand new one but curious as to whether or not that's the only fix? 🤔

My passenger side alcantara covered sun visor, started to split open due to age, and the old glue. So, I took it to an upholstery shop, after I tried gluing it together myself.
I used upholstery glue, but apparently that didn't hold together as well, as I thought it would. So, I found a local auto upholstery shop in NOVA called Seatco.
They took it apart, and removed the old glue, and put it back together using a transparent glue. The sun visor looks like new, and 100% better than when I did it.
The price however cost me $150, but totally worth it. I little about Seatco, they can do a total interior restoration; cloth convertible tops, door cards, dashes, carpeting, leather and cloth seats.
They can also build a car's interior from scratch. If my driver's side sun visor ever decides to come apart, Seatco is where I'm taking it.

Are these the same people that did your door/dash wood trim?

No they weren’t the same company, but these guys do complete interiors.

The company you’re thinking of is OCarbon in Arizona, they did my carbon fiber dash trim, center console and door trim. But you have to send them they donor pieces so they can work their magic, and the whole process take about two months. So, it’s better to buy a donor trim pieces off say eBay, to send to OCarbon while retaining your existing interior trim while you wait for the new pieces to arrive. I paid like $750 for true hand laid carbon fiber, and all the pieces have the carbon weave laid out in the same direction. You will be very happy with the results, well worth the money I paid.

I had my passenger side sun visor both split and it was also very resistant to flap down and up, so some Lubricant was necessary. I went to an Arts and Crafts type store and got some product that is made especially for gluing styrofoam together. Before doing so, I used some Wurth Lubricant to loosen up the bracket. Then applied the glue to inner side of the now fully separated halves of the Visor and then wrapped it with plastic wrap before sandwiching the visor between 2 pieces of wood and the used clamps all around and let sit overnight. The plastic wrap was used to protect the Alacanterra. It worked like a beauty and has been installed ever since!

My recommendation is, if one of your visors is starting to split, you might as well have both of the visors addressed, as the other one is sure to follow.
I had one start to split, and was fixed, then months later the other one starting to split. I should have had them both fixed at the same time.
My visors were addressed by a professional shop in my area, they do complete car interiors.
