W211 Mult-CD changer door / How to make it function after updating head unit?
I just replaced my head unit with an updated Android unit. While that was a bigger "challenge" than I had hopped for (due mainly to a faulty unit, not the actual install), I am trying to figure out how to make the multi-CD changer door motor function. It appears that the head unit must have had something to do with its operation. Ultimately, I want to replace the CD changer with the "cubby", but I need to make sure I can get the door to function before I order it. I have searched around and have not found a definitive answer on this. Any help is appreciated.

I have hours of working on mine including replacing the amplifier chip and modifying the main processor connection. It's working well so far now, but it was a battle.I am pretty familiar with the inner workings at this point.
It's possible but you'd have to either change your MOST box to an Enfig SRWH-W211 or just add it to the CAN system w/o connecting it to the fiber optic loop. If you do the later it may interfere with your audio steering wheel functions.

It was actually working without being connected to the fiber optic loop. A previous owner had installed a Mobridge Bluetooth unit and disconnected the fiber optics from the CD changer. The door still opened as expected. It's odd that every other control on that panel still functions other than the door button. Why is that control the only one that loses functionality?
I have both a fiber optic decoder and CAN Bus module. All of the steering wheel controls work. Is there something special about the one you linked to that resolves the door issue?
Correct. I don't use the fiber optic system for audio in mine and I removed my cd changer and put the storage box in it's place. It must work off of the CAN system. Yes, the one I listed has the CAN coding for the cd door to work like oem.

I have reached out to the guy to see what price and availability are. It might be a cheaper option. I'd rather not have to purchase the other kit as I do not need most if it.

Update: For what its worth, I head back from the guy that makes the emulator that allows the CD changer door to work using the original button. They cost $60 each and shipping is $25. I believe they are coming from Russia. It is certainly more expensive that installing a remote relay, but it's definitely a cleaner/easier option.

Can you post results of this emulator once you receive it? Sounds like an elegant solution and I would definitely purchase one if it works.
I am not sure yet if spending that much money makes sense to get it working. If I do order one I will start a new thread and let everyone know how it goes.

From what I understand the door is looking for a CAN bus message to allow it to function. I am guess that the module that is being offer simply injects that message into the bus so that the door is enabled.

I assumed the same thing. In theory you can plug it into the bus anywhere in the car I would imagine. I used one in the foot well for my steering wheel controls module.

That makes sense. I could mount it near the CAN bus junction box below the glove box and not need to stuff it under the head unit. Thanks for the itdea.

After a long search for how to enable the CD-changer compartment door after installing an aftermarket stereo, I found this thread, which eventually lead me to a german guy, that sells a similar emulator as described by MJBelcher500 in post #8. He has a site schlauhaus.biz and also an ebay store for his stuff. You have to search for "w211 kinematics adapter" in ebay or on the website. I ordered one from ebay, and can confirm, that his adapter indeed makes the CD compartment door in my 2005 W211 move again. Originally my car had a basic Audio20 CD head unit without CD-changer and without amplifier. The kinematics adapter has a nice 3d printed enclosure that attaches nicely to underside of the CDE changer compartment box. It also has detailed installing instructions, and even a tool to attach the wires in tight conditions. One caution though, if you have Alpine ilx 702d head unit installed, as I do, then you still cannot use the compartment, as the compartment door binds against the protruding buttons that the Alpine unit has under the screen. Bummer! Now I have to find a good Carplay head unit with a flat front.

Thank you for posting this. This one looks to be a cleaner solution to the problem than the one I posted. It still seems a bit overpriced for what it does. That said, I may still order one to make use of the space behind that door.

Yes, that's the one I ordered. I was also able to modify the head unit frame to move it a little more into the dash and now the door works without binding. I agree, that the adapter is a little pricy, but it works well and was easy to get, so I am happy!

I just encountered this issue with an aftermarket install of android carplay headunit (Atoto A6 PF) on my son's 2004 E320 with HK sound. Son and I installed HU with Xtrons fiber optic decoder and fiber by-pass loop at CD changer to maintain MOST network.
Need input on possible economical solution. Would a DPDT switch wired directly to the motor in the manner of the video in post #2 work? After all, isn't the double relay module in Panzer's video emulating a DPDT switch with added wireless control? I have zero experience with DPDT switches but thought maybe a simple DPDT push button style switch could be mounted discretely to provide power on first push to open door and push again to reverse polarity/close door.
On the CANBUS front, isn't this just a line of code in the canbus giving the door permission to operate? Could this be added to canbus boxes on the market? I know some of the nicer modules like PAC and AXXESS are USB updatable. I doubt this piece of code is a priority for canbus decoder people given that the CD door is a small subgroup of the w211 family. Maybe that RND-ASH fellow over in the UK addressed this in his canbus programming.
