Weird motor sound
Hi,
Do you hear an annoying "helicopter type" (hahaha) on you e55 sometimes?
I noticed that this happens just when the motor oil is cold (less than 80)
Does it happen to you guys?

Yes, I have this sound at idle on my 04 E55. I also had this same sound on my 03 E500 at idle. Once I start moving I don't hear this engine sound. I believe this is "normal".

yes my car has that sound, and you definetly can't hear it when the car is moving. I find it comes on more often when the engine is warm (30mins of driving) That noise is on and off so I don't think it's "normal"... I brought it up with 2 dealers in my town and I got two different answers. They say it is normal, but I never trusted them... dealers....

so what exactly is the rotating belt? and why is that noise not there all the time? Is there a way to fix the problem? to get rid of that noisy sound?? because without that noise my engine sounds very smooth and I like it that way. My service advisor said the noise is somehow related to the piston and a fore man from another dealer said it has something to do with the fuel not burning compeltely. I don't know, I just want it fix if possible.

It's normal. Mine does it too (211). I only hear it at idle. I was told it was the supercharger or supercharger belt and clutch and also was told it was normal and there is no way to get rid of it.

I just got back from my dealer and finally someone knows what I'm talking about. He said it's the "perch valve" (don't know if I spell it correctly or not) design for the emission control. When the valve is close and the exhaust build up, it will create that "knocking" noise we hear in our cars. I think it is the closest answer so far.
