How to defeat foglights going off with high beams?
This is a stupid feature. Living in the land of fog, I realize that high beams just blind you because of the reflection, but I see no value to having the fogs switch off as long as your high beams are on. I was able to bypass this helpful "feature" on another vehicle. Anyone know how to do this on my E55?

Possibly, but I'm not aware of such a law. Added on auxillary lights are legal, so I doubt it. The "other" vehicle was my Dodge 4X4 truck, so they aren't exactly similar, but I'll check it out if anyone is interested. To me, it's just another one of those things made to protect us from ourselves that I can do without. Like the "lawyer locks" on the transmission (apply brake to shift from park).

Here is the California law;
CVC 24405 (a) Not more than four lamps of the following types showing to the front of a vehicle may be lighted at any one time

That doesn't make any sense. I know you can add aftermarket driving lights or fogs legally???? Restrictive law in Ca??? Never. Here? Couldn't be. Anyway, on the Dodge, there is a relay in the fuse box under the hood that allows power to the fogs through the normally closed contacts. When the high beams are powered up, so is the relay, thereby breaking the circuit to the fogs regardless of the dash switch position. A well known trick is to replace the relay with a jumper across the N.C. contacts, or disable the relay coil. I can't find such a relay in the 55. Oh well. I have to be different. If I find a schematic for this and it's a simple fix like the Dodge, I'll post.
