Any drag strips near LA?
I was just wondering if anyone was familiar with any drag strips in the LA area. Preferably one at which you can run cars against eachother (if thats legal). I've never taken my car to a track or strip before and my friend and I want to run his CL55 vs. my E55. Any suggestions?

Dont expect to get good numbers a CA speedway though. People generally get slower times there, 1300ft elevation, temp, etc. Our tracks here in So Cal suck. People on the east coast generally post the fastest times in the states, they have sea level drag strips, better temp, etc.

In addition to the California Speedway, Irwindale has public racing nights ever Thursday up until Thanksgiving. It's only an 1/8 of a mile strip, though. The Pomona Raceway used to also, but they shut it down in 2001. It's too bad, as it was a great way to alleviate the street racing problem in the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire. I suppose half the fun of street racing is the illegality but legal events are very popular if publicized well.

Cool. Thanks for all the posts. Im not really concerned with my #'s or anything. My friends and I just want to all go up one weekend with your cars and film us having some fun. Maybe put together a little vid or something. If anyone else wants to come maybe we can set up a meet or something. Anyway, thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.

Palmdale is pretty close, but there's an elevation issue. They are running a late-night "street-race" type event on the 30th that might be a good opportunity to check it out. The last one of those was a lot of fun, except for the wind.

If you don't mind the drive down to 'Diego, you could get some runs in at Qualcomm http://www.racelegal.com/news/news.asp or Carlsbad Raceway http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/Carlsbad.php

The best track here is Pomona, but it isn't opened to the public any more.
Your next best bet is California Speedway in Fontana. It's a decent track and is the best 1/4 track within 100 miles of LA.
Stay away from LACR (palmdale). The track is horrid...not only is the elevation extremely high(kills ET), and horrible crosswinds(sway from side to side)...they don't prep the track and all the FWD ricers drag water for the first 330'.
Irwindale is undoubtly the best hooking public track in socal, but it's only an 1/8th mile and it gets really busy...so don't plan on getting a lot of runs in. I like going here although you don't get to use your car to it's ful potential.
