My E55 is in the shop for an audio upgrade....

Getting 2 12" JL Audio subs w/ 1000w amp installed in the trunk. Car will be done tomorrow. I'll post pics and my assessment of the upgrade thereafter. According to the installer I will not lose very much trunk room at all.

My buddy has a new G55 and he simply added one 10" and it made a huge difference to the factory system. I went with the 2 12s because of the steel divider between the trunk and rear seating area.

Now the only thing left for me to do is hope my car gets back to me in the same condition!!!!

I did same only half

Had one 12" JL with 500 amp installed in addition to the factory sub. Installer did great job mounting it against back seat and I can still lift my trunk flap. For my needs this was more than enough "sound" enhancement. I can't imagine what two would sound like cranked up. System sounds great!!

Can't go wrong with JL Audio- I run two 10's powered by a 500/1 JL Amp, more than enough bass!!

I get my black/black 2005 E55 delivered in late November. What is your guys rating of the other speakers interior to the car? I take it you feel the bass response of the current sub that MB provides is not adequate.

I took a look at JL subs, but they do not use aluminum drivers in their subwoofers, or so it seems.

Would you recommend any other high end sub drivers, and which amps to power them? I want something clean, tight, with fast response, and something that does not rattle the car, but pushes good solid bass.

Eagleeye, are you using just some regular box or a custom box such as a wave box or a VT box?

Here is what I bought. The box is made by JL also. He is bolting it to the steel divider between the trunk and rear seating area for better response.

Nine new ProWedge™ systems harness the power, small box requirements and sound quality of W6v2 subwoofer drivers to deliver stunning output and stellar sonics in a variety of vehicles and applications.

Very compact, rear-firing designs with angled back panels allow these enclosures to rest against the rear of the back seat, while firing towards the rear of the vehicle.

Stylish, durable black vinyl (front and side surfaces) and black automotive grade carpet (top, back and bottom) give these systems a clean, upscale appearance. Sturdy steel mesh grilles are included to protect the drivers. Five-way binding post connectors are used for secure, flexible connections.

Power Handling:
800W Continuous

Drivers:
Two 12W6v2
Final Impedance:
4 Ohms Mono
Dimensions:
14.75"H x 32.00"W x 15.49"D
Notes:
Sealed enclosure
rear-firing design

Eagleeye, if you dont mind me asking, what are they charging you to install this? What kind of amp are you using? What is your total cost. I was quoted $3000 for custom installation, with 2 Diamond 12's and 800w amp. I thought the pricing was a bit extreme, maybe its just me?

I'm looking to install some Aurasound Mobile Reference 12's in the E55 once I take possession of it.

http://www.aurasound.com/mobileaudio/body.html

These drivers are excellent for bass response. What are the amps that you guys recommend besides JL? Or is JL the reference around here? Thanks for the advice in advance, I've never done subs in a car before.

Regards,
Gareth
