W211 E55 AMG 716.6 6-speed swap (info needed)

I've been dealing with 722.6 slipping issues and after changing the conductor plate, solenoids, pilot bushing, etc... im still dealing with slipping/overheating. I've decided to drop the ball and do a manual swap as im a fan of 3-pedal sedans

I've gotten alot of information and already am working out a deal to buy the whole kit (transmission, pedals, clutch & flywheel, shift linkage.. etc). The seller has also given me a good amount of information as he's done multiple manual conversions for customers.

The main thing im worried about here is the front half of the driveshaft. from what ive seen there are different lengths but they're all compatible as far as bolt patterns go.

2nd concern is mounting pedal box using w203 pedals. i've heard these are a direct fit from some people and heard there will be minor modification from others.

Feel free to add any information to this thread about the swap

And what brake booster are you going to use with that pedal?

Before you make that move contact XF motorsports in Canada, they did a manual swap on their E55. They have Napa know how, and a complete CNC machine for engineering parts, and the programming knowledge for the TCU.

Very interesting project! A manual swap has crossed my mind, but i've never checked into it. The W211 was offered as a manual over here in Europe, both the pre facelift with SBC and the facelift with ABR. I checked the used marked listings for one and see if someone might have posted their VIN in order to see what parts can be used and luckily enough i found one. Here's a pic with the W211 manual pedals from a W211 E280 (M272). An E240 with M112 and manual also exists, but i couldn't find a VIN on those. I hope this helps somewhat. The clutch pedal doesn't go to the brake booster, it has it's own cylinder i think. If someone can find a W211 E240 with 716.6 VIN, that would be even better maybe

Is no one here aware of the XF motorsports cd009 manual swap?

They sell everything you need on their site except the transmission itself

This helps alot actually. if oem parts cant be found then its a simple reservoir setup. i figured the sbc cars still have a master cylinder so tapping in is still a possibility. this diagram helps for a cleaner setup

My reasons for the 716.6 is simplicity, availability, and preference. Id rather use mb parts because they're still available if needed because they've used the same parts for over 15-20 years. Theres also very little to no fabrication or special adapters needed. This is also the cheaper option.

XF also has alot of their parts on backorder so thats also a downside. Granted, the CD009 is a great transmission but its just alot better to use MB parts

Look in uk for a wrecked 6speed manual w211 or w219 diesel. Buy the pedal set. (I have one but its not for sale).

Forget about the 716.

Use a 350z six speed or a tremec.

XF motorsport in canada sell most of the bits for the 350z transmission which is probably the most feasible way to go.

Or a guy in the uk has the tremec bellhousing drawn up in CNC obviously wont be cheap.

It's been super hard to source a W211 part as they're still searching. The manual controller is sorted, clutch plates and adapters, but this damn OEM clutch pedal assembly is difficult.

Not sure if anyone knows if the W210s or other models actually fit. On paper the mounting mechanism looks similar, but not sure what dimensionally has changed. Plenty of alternatives available.
