Just got the vrp under hood tank for my w211 e55 and it looks really good. Just now now realizing that after cutting the cabin air filter housing that the vent on the hood is right above the tank. The air intake for the cabin is right behind the tank and i was just wondering if this is going to be a problem in the rain. I dont want water getting sucked up into the vents and ruining the electrics. Cabin air filter vent location Vent on hood
I can definitely see how this could become an issue. There needs to be some type of cover for the HVAC intake, not only to keep water out but dust and debris.
The kit from vrp did come with a filter like material and wire mesh to help keep out dust and other objects. Unfortunately I didn’t notice the vent until after installation. I am more worried about the rain as i am down here in Florida so we are getting rain here every other day.

I took another look, and see the mesh that you're referring too. But, I would have thought that VRP would have the fore thought, to provide a plastic shield to prevent water intrusion. I would give VRP a call, just maybe they have a shield.
I would have expected that as well especially since this has been available for quite some time now. I did send them a email, yet to hear back from them. Unfortunately they don’t have a phone number listed.
I can see how that would be a concern, especially if you had to park the car outdoors and had a high rainfall environment.
I indirectly solved this by adding a cover off a C219. It seals up against the factory rubber gasket that goes between the firewall and underside of the hood, and would direct any water that did make it through across to the drain channel.
My car is RHD, so you just need to look up the LHD part.
Called my local dealership to place an order, was told it costs 68$, i also did get a response from VRP. They say that no water is supposed to get in when the hood is closed but im not sure if i trust that.
Sorry for the long break, just finished putting the car back together. Heres how everything looks. Got the part new from dealer for 30$. No idea why they said 60. Ive been busy with school and work and just recently finished the e63 conversion and cooling upgrades.
