SC belt portion of crank pulley now available via Bluetooth
On my new to me s211 E55 I knew there was an issue with power, from the first test drive something was "off". Aside from power or lack thereof, there was a lurch around SC clutch engagement, and a quick screech/loud chirp. PO didn't seem aware or to concur and a pre purchase inspection for a very reputable workshop (and personal friend) didn't spot the problem. It was diagnosed with belt slip but the culprit was supposedly the tensioner, an old belt and excess clearance on the sc clutch.
Plan =
Sort clutch gap
New belt
Tensioner
See how the car goes at each step.
Clutch gap didn't help, still same symptoms. Existing tensioner looks pretty new, though a Bapic brand (belt removed and nothing untoward noted during process). On to new belt. Was in the process of putting the new one on (old one off, nothing noted) when I was adjusting it on the crank, pulley shifted axially - hmmmm that's not right. Sure enough the pulley 'ring' slid cleanly off. The material on the inside looked nice and smooth.
Anyway, on the hunt for a new/good used pulley - can't wait to get it fitted and have a fully present supercharged 5.4L.
Obviously it's night and day, very happy now that the sc is actually getting turned now!
The job would be soooooo much easier if 2 things were engineered into the car.
1: do away with the stupid torx bolt at the bottom of the radiator shroud.
2: having a port to screw in a crank locking bolt.
Otherwise it wasn't too bad. I too my time as I clean as I go, and there was a lot of that due to old leaks - car has 220,000km on it..
Next chore is to replace the sc oil and start saving for a rear main seal job.
