mine makes a ticking sound too. thought it was just mechanicals moving but if this is a problem let us know

I get a tick tick tick also but not all the time and not consistant.

I just got my 05 E55 last weekend and this beast is insane. When I start the engine, something rattles/clinging from the outside. The dealer is going to check it out next week, hope they can solve this problem.

The lifter like noise on the E55 has been discussed in many previous posts. It is normal.

the 3 valve motor has a bit of clatter in it at idle and after a cold start. It is normal and there is no real solution. MB says cam shafts could slow the tick down but I have had it done on many cars and it always comes back. The sound gets louder as the car breaks in as well.

My SL55 was very quiet but now that it has 7k miles it sounds just like the E55. Nothing to worry about.

I think we all have that along with the screeching noise coming from S/C...I deal with it by turning radio up some.

No, the air compressors and actuators in the Active Sport Suspension make noises because of the intake and release of air. Its not that it needs to be fixed, nothing is even wrong. As far as the ticking noise in the engine goes, which has also been discribed as a "faint helicopter overhead" sound, it is very normal. I've had Mercedes' from the 80's, 90's and now 00's in my family and all models have done it. Its a characteristic of all MBZ engines. Embrace it! Its unique.

you can also be referring to injector clack. Every high volume injector has a certain clicking noise to it.
