with my '04 you have to hold the button down for a couple seconds for the trunk to fully open with both the key fob or interior button.

I had the same problem BoBcanada and thought it was normal but when I took it to the dealer to install a tracker on the car the service rep commented about it and asked me if I wanted it to open all the way. Obviously, that’s the way everyone would want it in my opinion so he did fix it. He linked a computer to the car but in the end I think he was able to do it via the cars computer.

I had this happened to both of my W211. I did not recall ever setting them on limit. But not long after the car was delivered, it simply went into limit mode. After removing it, the trunk operation has returned to normal and so far it has not happened again.

Hello all,
My problem seems similar, but...
When I try to open the trunk on my 2006 E500, the trunk opens half way, the red CLOSE button light goes off. If I press this button to close the trunk, nothing happens. The only way I can close the trunk is manually. I know for sure I did not change any settings. To be honest I don't recall seeing such a setting. Can anybody tell what menu it is in?
Thank you.

I had the same issue and symptoms with my 07... had to take the trunk liner out to get to the wiring on the driver side. Along the arm that goes to the trunk lid, you'll see the wiring running along it held on by zip ties. On my car, the last zip tie(closest to the passenger compartment) had worn through one of the brown(ground) wires in that harness. Spliced/soldered it up and it was good as new.
Hopefully this helps some.

Not that I recall. It was fairly easy to remove. If I remember correctly, there are a few screws fastening the hard plastic trim piece, along with a few screws on the liner.

Hello zwhill,
Thank you so much! You were right, the brown wire was broken.
I fixed it with the crimped terminal. Now everything is working fine.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
Alex.
