Fan staying on after car off issue

Weird issue lately. When I get home and park in the garage or the parkade at work, I shut the car off but the warning on the dash comes on to turn off the lights and the engine fan speeds up until I pull the key out. I keep my light setting on auto fyi. What's going on now? LOL

Did it go away? Sounds like another random gremlin relating to electronics in these cars. Try a hard reset of the main battery - disconnect for 30 mins and reconnect. Key fob battery low, maybe? I've had the dash throw all kinds of issues when the fob battery was low-- my keyless push-start started acting finicky, too..

I cough up 99% of the issues on this platform to electrical. I've been fighting and fighting a warning for "conv. functions temp disabled" for a couple years now- none of the features have ever had issues but the warning light keeps coming up. I've swapped OEM batteries, OEM aux batteries, relays, fuses, resetting things, nothing worked. Still remains and won't go away. Randomly the radio or NAV won't turn on or shut off when it feels like it... chased that around for a while, never found the culprit and it went away and never came back since.

PS I never leave my light setting on auto - always off if I am not driving it and it's parked.

It comes and goes. I have all new batteries. My indie mechanic scanned the car and no codes or issues. He's stumped as well. I feel your pain with the electrical gremlins.

BTW, why don't you leave your lights on in Auto?

Annoying, right? Give it a good wash and maybe she will oblige to your requests.

I feel like a badass turning the knob to turn the lights on - I am just very old school with certain things when it comes to cars - for instance, I have keyless GO push start, but still prefer to turn the key to crank her up. Hell, both of my cars are old! One is a '94 and this is an '06!

I had a very similar problem, the difference being that I recently changed out my fuel injectors and the wiring harness for the injectors includes the wires for the coolant temperature sensor. My indie shop also could not find the issue, even after I told them I recently replaced the injectors and I suspected the problem stemmed from that job. I ended up sending my ECU out for diagnosis and it came back with no errors. Finally ended up taking it to the local dealership where they narrowed down the problem to what I suspected in the first place. Replaced the coolant temp sensor and all has been well ever since. Earlier I said the problem was similar - my problem was the moment I turn the key on, my radiator and oil cooler fans would take off sounding like a jet engine taking off, and would remain on for at least 2 minutes after I turn the car off. So similar, but not exactly what you're experiencing, but it couldn't hurt to check the condition of the wires leading to that sensor. Turns out I broke my wires, but I replaced the sensor anyway.

Where is the sensor and how easy is it to replace? This all started after I had both valve covers gaskets replaced.

That diagram machild posted is okay, but I'll take a pic when I get off work tomorrow to show you exactly where it is. The work I did is similar to having the valve covers replaced, so I would be surprised if it's not the same issue I had. Same wiring harness is involved.

For me, this was the culprit. As I said before, the wiring leads for this sensor are attached to the fuel injector wiring harness, which I obviously disturbed when replacing the injectors. Part Number 005153232864

That's some funny sheet. I do the same thing and never used the keyless once in 11 years of ownership. Even better is I take the cover off the ignition key hole and will insert the key to start my wife's car. She thinks I'm out of my mind !!! LOL

Just updating this thread since I took the car out of storage yesterday. The fans staying on now happen everytime I turn the car off. I didn't have it back to the shop last year. Next week its going in for new injectors, plugs and rear diff fluid. They're going to have to look into this issue and get it rectified because I can't drive the car anywhere.
